992 Rear Light Cluster Faults

A friend's MY2020 992 C2S is getting constant faults reported relating to rear lights - indicators, side lights, brake lights.

When the fault is reported the affected light does not appear to be working but that is only the case when reported; at other times the light will be working.

The faults are not persistent, they appear then disappear. They can arise when first getting in the car or mid way through a journey.

The car has spent many weeks at an OPC with the issue being investigated and they can find nothing wrong. Apparently, no issues are recorded in the car fault memory. The OPC has nothing else to offer; they have no proposed next steps in terms of investigation of the problem!

Has anyone else encountered or heard of this problem?

Apologies if misunderstood… but if related to one rear light cluster then I would think that is where fault is located. I would remove and ensure connections are good. Only sure way would be to replace entire light cluster to see if internal fault was present. I suggest this as we had an intermittent and untraceable headlight fault that was only cured by replacing whole light cluster.

But I think Mike is having a problem with all three rear clusters, the right, lest and centre brake light. ……..

I wonder if there has been any water ingress to a connector around the fuse box area……

Yes, next time I’ll open pics doh!
The fact that it’s intermittent suggests connection. The OPC need to raise with factory. It’s not just inconvenient it’s potentially dangerous when lights involved. Reset software (OPC surely tried), tracing harness whilst observing reactions to lights to see if breakages, but fact no fault codes held is most suspicious as even mine holds fact I disconnect frunk light bulb. Harness connection into ECU.

Thanks for the responses so far. To clarify….

OPC has not suggested any issue with the battery; in the weeks they have had the car I would hope they have assessed its condition.

The issue affects all rear lights so is not isolated to a single unit.

The OPC has had the interior partly stripped out looking at loom and connectors - I would hope they looked for ny water/moisture issues but will ask them.

Not sure if they have been in contact with factory (they haven’t mentioned it) but will check; if they haven’t its upsetting given the many weeks they’ve had the car in the workshop Nd the fact they are out of ideas.
