992 GT3 vs 981 GT4 buying question

I've had a 718 GT4 Manual, then bought a 991.2 GT3 then got a build slot for a GT4 (PDK) so went back to Cayman platform.

GT3, you've got to own one at lest once!

For me I didn't like the 981 GT4 so I would go GT3 if I could afford it. You say you want manual? If so, then I'd go GT3 with Touring Pack for the "wolf in sheep's clothing" approach unless you do a lot of track work and would like the harnesses that only come with the Clubsport package.

Good luck deciding!

I am in the pleasant but surprising situation of owning a 2015 manual 981 GT4, but with an offer of a new 992 GT3. Back in March I got my GT4 from one of my local Porsche dealers here in North Rhine Westfalia. The dealer missed that the suspension had been tuned using ”motorsport parts” that weren’t road legal. After 3 months of me driving the car daily, in an illegal car and without insurance, and unaware... I had a handling issue and booked the car in, they admitted the error and put the car standard. This was done and I was told only after…This made the car handle in ways I hated, compared to the race setup. Which was quite rubbish!

Anyway, to apologise the dealer offered me an GT3 with an October build slot. Price and discounts to be agreed. Factory collection. I loved the GT4, but a GT3 manual could be awesome... The ongoing cost is, well, manageable with how my businesses are going. It’s quite a leap from a 110k euro GT4 and doubling that for a GT3 with options…

Keen to get opinions here! Should I stick or twist. Tempted to try and afford both but that’s slightly more than I need!! What would you do?

Going to post the same on both GT3 & GT4 forums!

Thanks for your reply! Interesting that you went from 911 back to Cayman. I did the same and loved the lightweight & balance of the 981/718 setup

At the moment I’m thinking GT3, white, PCCB and a bunch of options. If I’m living out this dream I’m doing it in style!

I haven't fallen in love with my GT4 and it is currently up for sale so I'd say go for the GT3. You only live once.

Thanks, I know what you mean. When I first had my GT4 with hidden performance part, it was good apart from lacking 2000-4000rpm grunt. I have driven a 992 GT3 and it lacked nothing…

Great position to be in Benjamin. If - even temporarily - you can afford both, why not just run them for a month and then decide? Although I’m sure that you already know the answer!😉

Keep us posted.

I took the plunge, and ordered a GT3, yesterday, on my birthday :) The Porsche code is PRB2PUA7, but it only seems to work properly on the German version of the code viewer. I have included the spec below, google translated from the German, but the option codes should be the same if the text is a bit jumbled! Big news is, I am keeping the GT4 as well. This way, me and my other half can take road trips to tracks together, and have a bit of friendly competition :)

Very excited to be joining the GT3 club, and this will be the second 911 I collected from Zuffenhausen. My build slot is in fact October, but I will be taking the car in the Spring. I am thinking of a scenic road trip to rack up the 1500km run in period, arriving at the either the Nurburgring or Stelvio pass with the right numbers on the dials to be able to push a little...

What a prospect in store - congratulations.

It does sound as if you were fortunate to avoid problems with the GT4 and its legality, but opportunities to purchase a new GT3 do not come up everyday, so a great outcome.

There has been a lot of discussion on here about the factory setup and its variability in practice. A suspension specialist may have been able to restore some of the desired characteristics to your car.

The specification of your GT3 looks impressive. I bet it will be a long wait.

Let us know how you get on.

Thanks for asking. I declined the GT3, in the end I decided I would rather spend my money on a classic. That way I get a totally different driving experience. Two GT cars seemed excessive!

So I bought a totally restored 1977 911 2.7. Grade 1 classic condition.
Pics please! Enthusiasm goes beyond Caymans on here...especially if you have kept the GT4. Did you make any changes to get back your preferred setup?
