991 Umbrella solution?

Hi all,

With the weather turning wet once again thought I'd enquire about people's solutions for keeping an umbrella in the 991. I don't have much spare space in the glove box and don't like leaving things loose and unsecured in the cabin, while keeping it in the boot wouldn't be very convenient if it's pouring down. I bought the expensive Porsche umbrella that I thought would be designed to fit in the passenger door sill cubby hole but alas, it sits proud in there and inadvertently gets knocked out as a result by passengers, so I'll be returning it. This is the one I mean:

So as far as I can see Porsche doesn't make an umbrella that properly fits in the strangely curved and tapered door sill cubby hole that I thought was built for this purpose. Does anyone know of a good quality umbrella that fits in there or another solution such as an umbrella holder or mount that doesn't require screwing into the interior?

(I have a 991.1 C2S, not sure if the cubby hole is any different on the wide-body or .2 models)

I didn't go for this in the first instance because I believe its cover is grey and wanted all black to match my interior, but perhaps will give it a try now.

I've got a Fulton Miniflat-1 umbrella that fits neatly into the door open cubby hole. See link http://www.fultonumbrellas.com/mens/folding-umbrellas/manual/320/miniflat-1/
Also I have a longer (but not golf umbrella length) one that also fits neatly behind the back seats, not sure what make that is but is also has a nice plain black cover a bit like the Fulton one so doesn't slide around.

Does the Fulton one fit flush to the top of the hole? The problem I had with the Porsche one is it sticks out a bit above the sides of the cubby hole meaning it was easy for passengers to accidentally knock it out when getting in/out of the car. Ideally would want to avoid the possibility of this happening...

otherwise I may just try to find one that fits well in the back I guess, ideally reachable from the drivers seat

Yes it does fit below the top of the hole & it also fits in the closed pocket in the door.

Is this the same umbrella that fitted the 997 passenger door sill.
My 991.1 GTS hasn't a slot for this anymore am I or the car missing something.

I believe it is, as it is also being sold by the US store suncoastparts.com as fitting in all 911s post MY1999 -- I obviously bought it from the UK porsche store but it looks identical:

(Unfortunately as I say above, while it does fit in the 991 cubby hole in terms of its width and length, the top of it sits noticeably higher than the hole's sides so it can be knocked out of there quite easily by a passenger who is getting in/out, this happened to me within the first couple days of keeping it in there. I have now reversed its orientation in the hole so the less bulky handle is towards the front of the car (on a trial basis as I still have time before I need to return it); this may reduce or eliminate the problem but can't say definitively yet.)

I have read on another forum somewhere that the cubby hole in 991s is smaller than it was in 997s and previous models. If you don't have a
the slot on the passenger side I'm not sure if that is normal in the GTS or whether it might be related to you having special door sills e.g. illuminated or carbon fibre ones or something if they remove the cubby hole on those. What is in its place I wonder, any pics?

a problem and as far as I know there two visions one in Black with a Black case and the other vision
is the Porsche Motorsport Vision WAP 050 450 0G with a grey case both costing about £40 to £50.

I have a 981 Cayman S and the Porsche umbrella fits perfectly in the rear boot. Oh sorry, you don't have a rear boot in the 991. []

Nope everyone knows the engine goes there! It would fit in the frunk no problem but the idea is not having to get wet if it's raining in order to retrieve it!

I think they are a bit different, the latter sells for £40 on the Porsche uk website and the former for £60, with different dimensions listed, and the umbrellas themselves are different colours/designs as well.

As far as fitting, I think the cubby holes may be a different size in your cars (and earlier 911s such as 997s) than they are in the 991. I read somewhere that they are smaller in the 991, hence the difficulty.
