As it's that time of the year, if I wanted to drop some hints to Barb about how good it would be to have a "go pro type gismo" in my car which would be the best one to wax lyrically about?
Best wishes to you and Julie
Cheers Phil
I have a GoPro Hero 3+ replaced now by the GoPro Hero 4 http://shop.gopro.com/EMEA/cameras/hero4-black/CHDHX-401-EU.html
For windscreen mounting I used one of the sticky mounts that's included rather than the suction cup http://shop.gopro.com/EMEA/mounts/suction-cup/AUCMT-302.html I also have the latter for repositioning around the car
You also need a GoPro auto adapter http://shop.gopro.com/EMEA/accessories/auto-charger/ACARC-001.html and a long USB to mini USB lead to get from the lower 12V outlet in the passenger footwell, I got one from Amazon 3m length works fine you can tuck it in around the trim so it's not visible and hide it behind the edge of the roof lining. You will also need the" Frame" to be able to mount the GoPro without using it's waterproof case so you get to hear the audio plus it's a lot smaller than the waterproof case that's included in the kit http://shop.gopro.com/EMEA/mounts/the-frame/ANDFR-302.html
Then you need an iMac, loads of software, about 70 hours of free time, loads of patience and lots of tea/coffee to make a video [8D]
Phil as for the GoPro, Adrian and I had a similar discussion this time last year. He made it all sound so simple and maybe it is but 12 months on not a frame of film has been shot and I'm still firmly in the "All the gear, no idea" camp.
lowndes said:"all the better for having rather less 997 interloper content than the last one."
Go easy tiger I thought Adrian's last video of the Sth Wales 991 weekend was also very good and being a 997 interloper at the time I have never ever looked to take the place of a 991. If you are taking video while following other cars on a drive surely it is likely that all cars will get footage time.
I have said many times before that friendships have grown through PCGB and as time passes we are all likely to move on often in different areas but we are all petrolheads who enjoy driving the cars we are privileged to own but it is more than that, it has a first class social element that many of us want to continue in some form or other.
The support of the 997 register really helped get the 991 register off the ground, it is now successful in its own right and long may that continue with events being fully booked in super quick time. But there is still a close link between the 2 registers with similar events and formats and I'm sure there will also be joint events going forward which is important for the club.
Anyway rant over and now owning a Boxster I guess I shall have to try and encourage the Boxster register to sample driving weekends and see if it develops. Possibly a Porsche driving register may be a possibility in the future.
