991.2 annoying squeaking noise, help needed.

Hi All,

I’m hoping you can help me with an issue I am experiencing with my 2017 991.2 C2S.

When I break to below 10mph and take my foot off the brake pedal, allowing the car to roll forward I can hear a rotational squeaking noise from the near side. I have it when I set off at the traffic lights or crawling forward in traffic.

Here is a video of the issue: https://youtube.com/watch?v=zllKuIyNnHc&feature=shared

I took the car into my local OPC who stripped and cleaned the brakes but I still have the same noise.

Has anyone experienced this or have an idea what it could be? I thought it could be the pad brushing the disc resulting in the noise.

Your assistance is appreciated.

Tom

You’ll need to put it on a video hosting site and post the url link. YouTube is the obvious one and there are others.

….but I think you need to rate it so us over 18’s can view it?

Standard for Porsche brakes. Did you untick that option?

Seriously though, my 718 does exactly the same but it isn't there when I've washed the holes out in the discs. I'm assuming it's a buildup of brake dust.

Really? You've had this problem too? Ive had noisy brakes when braking, but it has never continued once my foot is taken off the pedal.
The OPC has stripped and cleaned the brakes, the noise came back straight away.
This is my 5th Porsche and I've never experienced this before.

It's difficult to advise without knowing exactly what the PC did. Was it simply pulling the pads or did they remove the calliper and rotor?

Initially, I would take a drive and apply the brakes hard several times from high speed. Get them really hot, allow them to cool under normal use, then see if this had resolved the problem.

Gravel lodged in the mechanism has a similar sound, but it might also be a bent back plate, dislodged wear sensor, loose wheel bearing, rotor runout or a myriad of other defects. If you're not inclined to check the system over yourself, why not go back to the PC and suggest they take another look at their expense since they have not yet resolved the problem?

Regards,

Clive

It does sound as though you’ve got a pad which isn’t releasing completely either due to a sticking piston or a sticking pad. As Clive has indicated, the whole brake assembly needs to be dismantled and checked for correct and smooth operation.

You may also want to consider replacing the pad dampers which sit between the pistons and the pads and which are designed to reduce brake squeal.
