987 2010 Sports exhaust

Thinking of upgrading to a switchable sports exhaust. Mine is the Sports Chrono model and I have been given to believe that the wiring is in situ to connect the switchable valves to the 'sports' switch on the dash rather than a remote. Any comments please.

I had a PSE fitted approx 6 months ago to my 2011 987.2 (2.9), I also have sports Chrono. The OPC that fitted it did charge me for a wiring harness which cost £34 plus VAT and included a discount. I already had a nearly new sports tailpipe on mine so did not need that fitted.

It pays to ring around for prices, I went to three OPCs all gave different prices and I ended up with a very good discount. I love the sound, havn't regretted buying it.

I live in Oxfordshire and have three OPCs within approx 30 miles. The PSE has it's own dedicated switch, in the same position as shown on page 36 of the Driver's Manual, so you wouldn't know it was a retrofit. On starting up it is always in the "quiet" mode and you switch to "sports" when you want (not too close to the neighbours - although it is not particularly loud).

Bought my 10 reg Boxster S about 4 months ago, it has the switchable sports exhaust that I wasn't particularly bothered about upon purchase- however!- it sounds great when in use, seems to come on song at about 4K revs and really howls, not intrusive or boomy when cruising though.

most want the valves open all the time, it's not a loud system , even new cars are louder than a 987 with flaps open, but the PSE closes flaps at a range of revs and is very annoying even when open it closes it's self and then it sounds more quite than what you have now !!

I would go Carnewal mod route or fit a cargraphic, the oem route is pants imo and is just a massive chunk of pig iron.

I had the retrofit of the PSE on my 2010 2.9. I like the fact it is switchable for neighbour relations. I have read before that it closes the valves at certain speeds but have never noticed it. What speed/revs does this happen?

987 cars are not loud so having it off for neighbour relations is a moot issue, as all new standard porkers are louder out the box sans PSE, it's this new chav trend for loud exhaust coming back !!!

if you cannot notice if closes you get why I say it's a moot point for "neighbour relations" lol

Carnewal, the only way to go. I've got the 200 cell sports cats as well as the GT Exhaust. What can I say, sounds epic anywhere around the rev range and a lovely throaty burble on tick over. No drone on motorway with the added advantage that it looks completely standard.

I had a Carnewal exhaust fitted to my 987 S a few years back too - my better half and I combined a club trip to France with a follow-on trip to Gert's workshop in the Ardennes; staying at his guest flat whilst he fitted it, which is in a lovely setting. As Gert amends original exhausts internally, they look unchanged, but the sound is much meatier at all revs. I really loved it and in my opinion it sounded far better than the stock PSE I had fitted on my 997 C2S before, and at a fraction of the cost too. The detour from Honfleur made for a great few days too, although I'd recommend avoiding driving through Brussels itself if any of you decide to visit for fitting - that part of the drive was terrifying due to the most appalling driving standards we've ever encountered, so we felt very lucky indeed to get through the city unscathed!
