987.1 Boxster - Porsche #1 - 3 years on!!

Bought some upgrade headlight bulbs this week.

Philips White Vision H7.

I had these for the Porsche, but a bulb blew in the RS200, so I had to whip them off the garage shelf use them in the Clio.

Trip to Eurocarparts during the 35% off weekend meant they were just £20.

They were great in the Type R, they look good in the Clio and hopefully I'll get them in the Porsche at the weekend.

Also bought some leather touch up paint from Bespoke Leathering (John, the seat repair guy you see with Tim and Fuzz on CAR S.O.S)

£18 or so for a bottle of dye with built in sealant, including some toners to make the colour lighter or darker, and a gloss enhancer if you need a bit more shine.

Seat leather is good, I'm going to try it out on a bit of leather wear on the handbrake.

Interesting 'blog' this, we are planning a north Yorkshire run this June to do the stream railway run (etc).

I also have some leather rash on the driver's side bolster, good to see how you get on.

Have a great time Graham.

The nicer weather can't come soon enough!

I'll post up my results with the leather paint etc.

Not done much to the car.

I finally got round to fitting the H7 headlight bulbs that I bought back in Feb/March

They are a much whiter light than the standard bulbs.

The headlight assembly was pretty simple to remove.

Using the toolkit to twist the headlight out of the wing was straight forward.

Then quickly removing the 4 screws and taking the bulb out and replacing was a 5 minute job.

I struggled to get the headlight assembly back in, but thats because I was waiting for the 'click' of it being secured in place but didn't want to over tighten it and break anything.

I was much faster with the passenger side.

Looking forward to seeing what they look like in the dark.

Could do with replacing the sidelights with LED's, but that means taking the Zunsport grilles off, which I don't want to do in case I break a clip.

After doing the North Yorks Moors last year, then the Dales in February (brrrr !) my son and I had a couple of days in the North Yorks Moors again.

Very similar to our tour last year, stayed at the Downe Arms Hotel at Wykeham, between Pickering and Scarborough.

First day up there was really warm, blue sky, roof down, 24deg C.

A stop off for pics outside Rievaulx Abbey

Up to Stokesley and then back down along Blakey Ridge to Hutton le Hole.

Pics halfway along the Blakey road.

Following day was a different day altogether.

Lots of thick fog heading up to the Blakey road, and 12degC !!!!

The road after Pickering, turning off at Aislaby and heading up through Rosedale Abbey and up to Blakey Ridge was fantastic.

Roof remaining down, but heated seats on :)

Thanks for looking

Its the time of year when the car needs a service.

Coming up this month.

Major service

Spark plugs

Brake fluid

Drive Belt

Water pump

I'm going to have to get a paper round after paying for that lot :ROFLMAO:

Mine (987.1 S) is due the 12 yr service too. I'm questioning whether to change the water pump, it's on 57K miles. Probably safer to swap it out?

Don't forget gearbox oil change is also due at 12 years :-(

I've been quoted £800 for the service with gearbox oil change, but without the water pump change.

The exhaust manifold bolts from the engine (8 on each side) are rusted - advise I've seen is is to leave them, but wondering if they get worse it could be a bigger more costly job? how are yours holding out?

I haven't changed the gearbox oil. Might add that to the list when I get to the dealership.

Budget another £500 for a replacement water pump Chuckie

Mine's on 62k and although I don't have any issues, while it's having work done I'm getting it changed. Saves worrying later.

Manifold bolts I'm not entirely sure about the condition of mine.

I know the manifold to rear silencer bolts sheared about 18 months ago so I had all them replaced with stainless.

As you say, manifold bolts best left alone unless problematic.

Just rolled over to 3 years of ownership last week [:)]

Car has not been used much since Sep/Oct last year.

In fairness has only done 1200miles in the last 12 months which is a bit of a shame.

And a fair few of those miles were spent doing the Cotswold Rally 2019.

Thinking what I have done in the last few months, or since last summer.

Took all the wheels off and gave them a proper 'off the car' detail.

Used some Bilt Hamber Auto Wheel to clean off all the baked on brake dust

IMG_2051 by *JMR*, on Flickr

Bought some coloured replacement wheel centre caps, instead of the ageing monochrome ones.

I think they were around £20 from marts500 off Boxa.net

I was impressed at the accuracy of them - here they are next to my bonnet crest

Wheels not really bad before on the inside

And wheel centres fitted, on a shiny freshly detailed wheel

Inside of the wheel all cleaned up properly too, and removed the excess wheel weight residue

And this weekend, as we are all spending a lot more time at home with little to do due to the Coronavirus, I gave the interior a detail.

I even polished the metal and dressed the rubber and plastics on the pedals

Buttons still looking really nice, without any of the peeling that you see on some much fiddled with controls.

Sills polished, looking nice now

Car is running nicely.

I'm missing going out in it though, as I'm sure all you guys are too.

The mrs is doing online shopping and I'm not allowed to go to the shops as she's shielding for 12 weeks as she's classed as high risk.

She's getting the in-laws shopping for them as they're both 'vulnerable' and we are taking shopping over to them and dropping it on the doorstep, waving through the window and then coming back home.

Best thing is its a 60 mile round trip - today went in the Clio, next week will be the Porsche's turn which I'm looking forward to.

Other than making sure parents have food, we haven't been anywhere.
