987.1 A/C Problems with water in Passenger Footwell (R/H drive)

Bought the car 3 months ago A/C did not work
Fitted new Condensors and Drier (Easy job just remove the PU (Bumper) and remove the old Condensors (Genuine parts about 80.00 from Euro) make sure you have new seals (4) and soak them in PAG oil (LOts of PAG oil around joints)
THen the drier which is under the right hand cover by the Battery (Again new seals and PAG oil)
Get it charged up (Price gone through the roof recently)

After a good run the Passenger carpet was flowing in WATER.
So had to look under the front of the nearside carpet (RHD)
I think that you just need to pull the carpet back but remove the little cover by the door frame
Ease the carpet back from the outside of the inner car in front of the door - there are two plastic nuts which you can remove
5 Plastic nuts under the Glove Compartment (987.1 Boxster)
And pull the carpet back
There is a clear plastic tube running from under the heater matrix on the right hand side of the bulkhead.
It runs down the right hand side to the front of the tunnel


Could also be a blocked hole but this looks less likely

The pipe had come out of the rubber connection to the heater matrix really strange wonder how that had happened
A/C did not work when I bought the car (3 months ago) so could have been like it for ages

Put it all back together AFTER DRYING IT ALL OUT)

It is critical to ensure all the body drain tubes are kept clear of leaf debris etc.
The previous owner of my 981 had serious issues as one of the rear drain tubes for the soft top had become blocked whilst the first owner had the car.
Water then over-flowed into the passenger side compartment, flooded the floor pan beneath the seat which is where the body ecu happens to be. Now these things don't like high humidity never mind full blown water.
Keeping these drain tubes clear is well documented.
If your Boxster lives outside all year round then its imperative to check them regularly, they are not on the service point check list, its the owner's responsibility.

I am about to replace my ac condensers as the offside one has failed.
PAG oil is on order.
What torque setting did you use if any for the joint clamp bolts?
 
Replace both as the cost of refilling the gas is getting beyond a joke
euro provide two makes - One is original manufacturer is it Beru!
Also replace the Dryer

Must admit don't use a torque wrench if you use a foot long wrench you can tell what is good - common sense

Maybe I shoud as ive just treated myself to a good one!!


 
I have two OE quality replacement condensers to fit plus the drier from Euro Car Parts.
Out of interest, what did you pay for a re-gas?
 
Another question for anyone in the know, have been searching for a local company to recharge my car ac system once I have fitted the new condensers & drier and whilst searching I found many youtube videos about DIY refilling the system with a R134a fill kit. Now I suspect the initial outlay of the kit is no cheaper than getting someone to do it for me but with two other cars with ac the kit will easily pay for itself if then used to top up these as well.
However, my Boxster system has lost all its gas so am assuming once the new parts are fitted, the air will have to be vacuumed out before filling with new gas.
Now none of the youtube videos state this.
 
Re-gas doesn't have to cost any more than £40-£50. Have a look on Groupon, National Tyres often have an offer on there
 
Have just got my ac re-gassed.
I was informed by the garage that did the work that the charge for a system test and refill was £45 up to 600 grams system capacity.
Apparently, the price of R134a has gone through the roof.
The Boxster takes 850 grams.
I was charged £88.
Other quotes I got was from £65 (or £85 if done by a mobile engineer at my home) up to/over £100.
I saw that places like Kwik-Fit and National Tyres did it cheaper but my personal experience over the years of those places were not good mirrored by some recent reviews.
You pays ya money and takes ya choice.
