Provided the coolant level is correct and there are no obvious leaks from the system I wouldn’t be overly concerned ATM. If it keeps happening - especially in “normal” driving - then probably it was a one-off due the circumstances you’ve described.

Incidentally, are you sure that it was the coolant fans? I’m not sure about the 982 F-6 but on my 987.2 CS there’s an engine compartment venting fan which is extremely loud in operation. 😲

Hi Jeff,

Yeah I don't see any leakages under the car as of now so hopefully just overly spirited driving and muggy air. I'm not certain which fans it is tbh. They tick over every time I shut the engine off for a short while, they sound as if they're in the engine compartment to me.

 
I'm used to the fan ticking for a few minutes on engine shut down but yesterday was (so far) a one off extreme 100% fan for about 7-10 minutes.

I had been driving like a bit of a hooligan in sports+ and it was hot as hell (muggy).

But I just wanted to check that this should be expected on these occasions for the heat soak to dissipate etc. Or is this abnormal and should I get the coolant system checked out?
 
The two coolant fans are up the front whereas the engine compartment fan will be at the rear. If you stand by the front wheel arches you can hear the coolant fans and feel the air flow.

it ended up that it was the £22 engine compartment temperature sensor which is easy to replace yourself if you’re so inclined to lift off the engine compartment access lid.

cheers - there's no error codes or warning lights. I have a while left on my warranty so hopefully if its anything that needs replacing I'm covered.

 
I’m sure that it was a rare event brought upon by a high ambient temperature and a spirited drive Antony.

There’s a lot crammed into the F-4T engine bay, including a very hot turbo and its air/coolant intercooler, so its going to get rather warm in there! 😲

If you’re planning to do the same again in this hot spell it might be a good idea to do a few miles at low speed to let things cool down a bit.

yeah that's what I'm hoping - just give the car a while to breath without a high boost for a bit before I park up.

Am doing a local drive tonight so if all is as per normal, panic over.
