Any suggestions for an affordable service tool to allow basic at home repairs. Eg Disc and pad replacement to reset handbrake air gap?

Hi Ian,

It’s not clear to me what you’re asking for. Are you after a diagnostic tool or something for the toolbox?

Jeff

I suggest a Foxwell tool at £299. The official UK distributer is Gendan.co.uk where you can search by manufacturer. Searching for tools for Porsche shows a variety of specialist tools including a Foxwell NT680 (https://www.gendan.co.uk/product_FXNT680A.html).
The info indicates that it supports Electronic Handbrake servicing on Porsche but I would e-mail them to confirm it does what you need for the 981. Additionally, this tool supports a whole bunch of other functions for over 60 makes of car. Lifetime updates are free to cover newer models. The download and update process is simple and their support is good.
I have been using the similar NT650 Elite for several years with my 987.2 (and with other vehicles belonging to family members). Gendan do sell this at £250 and it covers EPB functions but the Gendan site does not list it as recommended it for the 981 generation. The NT650 does show as supporting EPB but this may only be on other makes. You could ask them if it will meet your needs. My tool has been problem free but, like many of these tools, is not always intuitive to use.

Before committing to any tool suggested, check with the manufacturer/vendor that it specifically supports resetting the air gap on a Porsche EPB. If not, you will have a fault code that you will not be able to clear. Small print on iCarSoft: "some functions may not be available on all years /models".

If you email Al at iCarsoft (also has a youtube channel) he'll tell you what you can and can't do with the 3.0. You also get free lifetime updates.
