981 Passenger Airbag

Hi everyone - have been following the forums for a while but yet to post! Apologies if this has been asked before but my searching can only find answers for the boxster. I am looking at spending around £30k on my first Porsche :) currently looking for a 981 Cayman after toying with the idea of a 997 C2S - I am yet to drive both so may yet sway back this way. My ONLY hesitation at the moment is I have an 18 month hold who occasionally will have to be in the car. No where seems clear how easy/possible it is to disable the passenger airbag. Is the Cayman the also using the weight sensors and automatically switching them off or can I switch it off manually using the key? Again apologies if this has been asked before and thanks for any help!
 
Thanks Andrew - good to know it is possible even if I have to retrofit and sort a new seat out - definitely decided on the 981 over a 997, the issue is now do I save for a bit longer to try and get in an S or go for 2.7! I was all for the 2.7 model but have read some reviews about the lack of torque that worries me (despite still not having driven one) Im coming from an F10 530d so used to that low end pull

 
Unfortunately so! Everything I have seen that I have been interested in so far has been more London way...thankfully I'm not in a rush so happy waiting it out as long as I need [:)] - though I must admit I'm intrigued as to what the prices are going to do..!

 
There is no lack torque with my 2.7 and whoever of told you that has obviously not driven one.

Its a really sweet engine and will hold is own with any Porsche on a track day too!

You need to try one for yourself - you will love it!!

 
I will report back when I have! happy to wait until the perfect car pops up as his one will be a keeper for a fair while rather than a workhorse like the current 5 series

 
I often get asked for inside knowledge on cars coming up for sale ( not that I have any contacts to all Caymans coming up for sale ) and my views on the different models, from the days of the early 987's, I took a small group to Stuttgart and while it was noticeable that the S models had superior acceleration even after autobahn runs where we would cover a couple of hundred kilometres when we pulled in the 2.7's didn't keep us waiting for long. The 981 2.7 as Peter says is much improved, you should be able to get child seat mounts retro fitted if they are as those in the 987 and the airbag override switch at your local Porsche Centre but it may be a good idea to check on that beforehand to have all of the information to hand, they may even have a car which takes your fancy, it's good to have the two year warranty while getting to know the car, you can at least test drive some cars which have been checked over before deciding in your own time which engine size you prefer.

 
Is a two year warranty included on all cars coming direct from Porsche regardless of year? To be honest I’ve not been looking that much at them as theyve all been a bit pricier. Im being led to believe the retrofit of the airbag switch is around £300-400
