981 GT4 Replaced Battery - coding?

Quick technical question if I may?
My 2016 GT4 (981)'s OEM battery finally gave up the ghost with all sorts of alarm issues and strange behaviour giving it away. I have just swapped out for a like-for-like Banner replacement and issues seem to have been fixed, but I am struggling to find the definitive answer on whether the new battery needs (or can even) be coded to the car?

Mine is as simple as they come. Manual, no start/stop, not even a PCM! And I dont have (and wont have) a warranty hence not buying the battery from Porsche.

If anyone knows the definitive position Id be grateful?

As a 987 rather than a 981 owner I’ll defer to those like Ralph who have direct experience with that series, but I believe that the battery can be coded to the car (via PIWIS or similar) so that its condition can be monitored.

Thanks all for the responses. I suspect the impact of not coding is minimal, and given what ralph says above, as mine is not an OEM battery im not sure the information will be there to enable coding anyway. It sounds like there is some battery management/optimisation going on and perhaps if you dont reset/recode you run the risk of the car managing a new battery in the manner it thinks is best for an old battery. I doubt the impact of that is material in reality especially without stop/start function, and as long as the battery wasnt so dead that it was throwing codes and CELs etc all the time.

 
When codind a battery for a 981, the part number and serial number are not important. You only have to enter numbers with the correct amount of digits. What is more important is the battery technology entry (Wet cell/AGM/Lithium, etc), and the AH rating. Coding it means that the car knows the battery age, type, and rating.
