968, some help to a first buyer

Hello all.

I am new here and hope some can help me.

I have up to now been a BMW and a Alfa Romeo owner. But, I have been looking more and more to a Porsche, a 968.

To have it as a second car. A great GT to take for some long trips.
But, how are the quality on these old Porsches compared to a BMW or a MB from the same time?

Also, how is the 968 to keep alive, having service and repair in mind.

All help and information is good to me.

Thanks for looking all

First off, there's quite a lot of good info on this forum - just set the search to 365 days instead of 7!

Second, register on 968UK.co.uk - any problems, use this forum to contact Mr968 (Stu) who runs the 968UK forum.

I've had my toy 12 years, and it's been very little trouble other than routine servicing. Contemplated swopping for a 986/987 or a 996, but I think the only swop I'd consider is a 968 cabriolet!

hi, welcome to the forum. was having a think about your initial question and would say these things about our cars, some of which will be 20 years old soon:

- the 968 is a heavily galvanised body and seems very resistant to rust
- the things that do rust are restricted to the exhaust and various small clips and things on the underbody
- Porsche are very good with parts supply and there are many other places to get things, often very cheaply
- lots of independent garages understand the car and give good service in the UK, but do some research -- where are you?
- the 968 is one of the best handling cars you will ever own, so if you fancy one, don't bother to look at other makes, get buying!!
