968 front splitter

As a side project i fabricated a 968 Turbo front splitter for a friend's 968. Turned out quite good []

Fabricating a mock up piece from which the mold will be taken. Almost ready, just last gel coat surface needs some sanding.

Some primer

after that i added 5 layers of Midnight Blue Metallic and 5 coats of clear coat
and installed splitter.

Where did you get your clear indicator lenses from? I haven't seen them in the UK.

From what I've read they never quite fit as well as the orange originals, so what's the attraction/advantage

Did I also read somewhere that the splitter form a Seat Cupra fits the 968 and looks about the same as the above?

Yes there is a slight fittment issue, ie there not as neat and dont quite fill the space like the orange ones do, i guess they look somewhat more " modern" in that they get rid of the orange colour.

Yes the Seat splitter fits but its not as good as the Turbo S type.
Personaly i prefur the car without any splitter. ive fitted all the porsche + techart varients , on numerous different 968,s and come to the conclusion Porsche did a great job in the first place.[]

Dave, I think I agree with you. The splitter is just something worse to catch on kerbs in car parks - which we did twice with the coupe, first time the wife got the AA out to rescue her, second time I heard the crunch so reversed - and ripped out half the undertray rear fixings in the process! Had to gaffer tape it up to drive home from Tescos Ashford to Liphook, then sorting it on a gravel driveway was painful!

Personally, I think the orange indicators give the car character, so I'll stick with mine!

Ah - good spot. I guess I got over excited, but on reflection, I'd rather they fitted better. Ever hopeful someone will come up with a good clear lens solution...

2 sets of 993 clear indicators on eBay just now if you're still thinking of them. One set new, other is second hand and has a slight crack in one lens. Nothing to do with me, just happened to notice them.

My friend use 993 clear lenses. They are made in Taiwan.Quality is very good, but they are ment for 993's, so it won't fill properly one of the corners in bumper.
Splitter i have made is a direct copy of factory 968 Turbo splitter, so fitment is similar like factory made item. I have two extra ones i like to get rid of.

I've been impressed with the cab's performance from the start - not knowing it already had a Superchip fitted! Impressed with the Promax, subjectivly I think it's marginally better than the Superchip, there's a Promax 7100 for sale on 968uk for £75 (Plenty is putting his car back to standard to sell) or 968uk sell them new for £101 delivered, with instructions, if you're interested. I think it's a real improvement on the standard chip - which is what, I'm sure, my coupe had.

Thanks. Another thing on the list I must do, but tyres are a higher priority at the moment! I had a Superchip in my old 944 S2 and that used to fly, so I think the Promax upgrade is a must-do and I've not heard a bad thing about it.

I have tested ProMax, RS Barn & Porsche Motorsport division chips with several 968's ( i have chipped 18 968's)
For street/track RS Barn works very good. For track Porsche Motorsport is way to go, sorry in my list ProMax is the last. ProMax for S2 works great though.

Just got to say ,, a live map [rolling road],is THE only way to get the best from a car.
Yes the generic chips do give gains, but you ultimately gain in one area , only to lose in another...[][]

Yes i am aware of that. We have done our own chip for friends 968 (on dyno). It works great in this 968, but does not necessarily do the same job in the other 968.All cars are individuals []
I have also tested all the chips i mentioned on dyno, and RS Barn gave the best results for street car. It has slightly better torque figures compared to ProMax.

Its all subjective isn't it Ollie! Could go further and state where in the rev range. My RS Barn chip had benefits over the Promax in certain areas...bu tultimately 'combined' the beest of both through a live map (my car also had headwork, cams, throttle body etc)

What was the best relative to cost?
