964RS values

I am a bit out of touch having sold my N-GT, previously owned aRS Carpet both LHD. Don't think I'm really in touch now, but use to comment on the 964RS in many a Magazine and Forum. At one time probably The Authority on 964RS Values but alas no more, I have lost my powers of Leichtbauism and should not really be here in the Hallowed Halls of the Leichtbau elite ... £50 K* £55 K** £60 K*** £65 K**** £70 K***** [

The pragmatic way is to advertise that you are looking for a RHD 964RS and wait for replies. You are going to get some as there is a general drift towards people cashing in their cherished cars in current economic climate. After that its a matter of negotiation and how much money you have if you are serious. The good news is that there will be no demand from the Fatherland []

Prices on mobile.de seem to be 55k euro for tired example to 75k euro for a decent one. The euro is still strong so it is making prices here still strong and most cars that come up for sale seem to go back to the fatherland. Any reason why you want RHD? There will always be more demand for LHD as a larger market and it makes no difference where you are sitting on track? Unless you are looking for a mainly road car? If you specifically want RHD then Ollie has a nice red one! OooooErrrrr
James I don't think you'd get a rhd for less than £50K and that would be in shabby condition. The white car which Hairpin recently sold went, I believe for close to £65K, and I think the best are probably £75K. I have a vested interest in the above as I have a rhd car, but I'm not selling. The lhd market certainly remains strong in Euro-land, with the best cars approaching £100K and that's not just N-GTs. Damen

Thanks for all your replies, especially Ollie who emailed me details of his car. I wanted RHD as thats what I'm used to driving, saying that I know that everyone who has owned LHD say its not an issue. Basically I've been looking at modern stuff around the £40K mark such as Ferrari's 355 / 550 or Porsche GT3's and think I would feel too self consious in these cars or find them (the Ferraris) not as durable as a Porsche. This led me onto the unusual i.e rare 911 route which leads me to the RS's or maybe a 993 Turbo, I don't need a track car as I already have an Atom but I do want a great drivers car for the road that will not depriacte like a lead ballon. Anyway I'll keep on looking and appreciate all your help. James

Without wishing to stir up a hornet's nest, if you are looking for a road car I would not necessarily say a 964rs is the ticket. Even a 993rs (especially with solid bushes etc) is not the best road car but with its softer spring/damper combination is better. For the road I'd look at a Turbo. Still i would also say that once the 911 bug bites no matter how fast the Aerial Atom is a track focused 911 still delivers a truly feelsome and characterful experience.
Let me offer another point of virew. Tell us more about what you want from a road car? Do you want something that is suited to the environment, that will cosset you, and still be very quick? Do you want a car that your mother could drive around town without complaint? If so a 993TT will fit the bill. However, if you want a car that commands your attention pretty much all of the time, delivers the level of feedback that your atom does, but still has a roof, heater etc. Then an RS will probably fit the bill. You clearly arent just looking for a fast car, as the RS is probably the slowest car you mention. If being depreciation free is of interest, then yes I think you are on the right money. I think they make very entertaining road cars, for the same reason these guys all use them on track (even though there are faster cars for less money).

I second what h_______ says. All this talk abouit 964RS's not making good road cars is, IMO, simply regeritating rubbish dating back to 1992 and some pretty shoddy journalism. Th problem was that at the time the car came out, the reference point for the car was very different to what it is today. Don't misunderstand me. We aren't talking about an everyday car to take the kids to school and go shopping in. However, as a regular drive (I did about 10,000 in a year), it really isn';t that bad when comparedwith the likes of an Evo, or Honda Intergra Type R or an STi Scooby etc. It is a lot more civilised than, say, a Caterham although my brother does consider it a tintop Caterham. So, it might not b everybodys cup of tea, but it is a perfectly valid road car which is knowhere near as bad as some would have you believe.
