964RS looking for a good home !

ORIGINAL: jason

Just because Steve is catching you up is no reason to sell John. You've been holding the rest of us up for years!![:D][:D][;)][;)]

I reckon in was the lightweight 20 Jahre Carrera RS Des special tee-shirt that I was sporting at CC that made me speed up. [:D]

O/T but what's the green thing in your avatar Feroz? Looks v interesting...

BTW Jason had to do a doubletake on Monday when a bluto RSR rep turned up at Goodwood.Thought it was you taking to the track. 'Only' a 2.7 engine though.....

Yes he's a big copycat!!! ;)

That was Ian Highfields White car last year...changed a bit now[&:]

After many years lusting after a pre 73 car, mainly for the looks but also the way they drive, I decided to buy one. That was about 5 years ago ....... was a bit pre-occupied with family and work so it never happened. Started looking again and struggled to find something that ticked all the boxes. My friend was having a nut and bolt restoration done on his 2.7 RS and not surprisingly I quite liked it so I asked them to build me something similar with a few tweaks.

So yes, it will be a 2.7 RS lookie likey in my favourite colour. Left the body shop this week to be fitted up [:D]

Will be nice to catch up with you guys at some events soon.

Good call Yoda ... more and more look a likes, homeage, replica, recreation, optiks around now such is the versatility of the early 911 and hike in value of the real thing.

Think the ideal base for such a vehicle would be the 964 Chaissis with ABS and G50 imho ...

I have suggested a New Register for all these cars including RUF for all Porsche chassis derivatives, I hope to get a reply soon[8|]

That would for sure be a fantastic toy.... needs stripes, viper green or white, perfect!

If you want 1) The Look or 2) Replicate the way an old car drives, then a 964 as a starting point ain't going to be of any use at all tbh.

Your better off finding an old solid car and building up.

Don't know Paul Stephens does a good job and maybe the old look is not what you want but I think the big benefit is the G50/ABS and 3.6 lump ..... However an early preimpact chassis not going to be that cheap .... decisions decisions ........

Paul Stephens!!!! And I thought you were a man of great taste Des.......[&:]

I've seen some of the 964 backdates and think they look very wrong. Some of the SC / 3.2 based cars look better but its hard to get the weight down and the details are never right.

My car is based on a 1972 LHD shell, stripped to bare metal and modded to match the 2.7 RS. It has lots of nice details and everything on the car will be new or refurbished so no rust and hopefully trouble free. 2.7 RS motor on MFI should see it 200ish bhp and around 1000ish kg. It should be a very good approximation to the real thing in looks and feel ...... better had be!!!

I've driven quite a few of the early cars and they certainly have an appeal as I am sure those who have one (incl John) will tell you.

Sounds interesting, unfortunately I don´t know very much about these early 70s cars - can you keep us updated?

As a guest I´m not really qualified to say that, but good to have you back here, Yoda!

Rgds,

Just following up on Yoda's post ....and Jason 's right about recreating the early car.....its not a 964 type thing....the holy grail is the lightweight chassis with a 2.7 litre MFI engine / 915LSD gearbox / 15 inch Fuchs on 'period aspect' tyres and brakes that make you respect corner entry speed.

They are really different to 964RS and scary at lower speeds , as compared to say a 997GT3RS being scary at higher speeds than a 964RS [;)]

Here's a clip from a 911E with about 210 bhp / 1050 kg at a wettish Goodwood , I'm following a period Ford Mustang , which disappears up the Lavant but gets hauled in again by the chicane

Good to see you back here Feroz. I knew the 'hint of green' would turn out to be something interesting.

I've lost track, who bought your black RS and is it/owner still active on here?

On this overall theme, this must have been a great car (Des, Paul Stephens!?!? [:'(][:'(][:'(]).

Any idea where the Harris car went?
