964 Tiptronic electrical short/ bad earth ?

Problem is: All rear lights are dim and pulsing when side-lights are on and direction indicator is on to the right. Also, the tiptronic selector lever lock pulses on/off with the indicator. What is the common component between all the rear lights and the tiptronic lever lock ? I suspect a relay or a common earth but am reluctant to delve deeper without some knowledge.....front lights and indicators are fine and do not affect the selector lever lock.
Any suggestions much appreciated.
Car is a 1993 C2 Tiptronic.

The first thing that I would check is that ALL of the earths are clean & tight including all the hard to get to ones.

Peter,

I'd agree with Brian but, in particular, I'd check the earth(s) on the RH rear light cluster first. The tiptronic selector lever lock pulsing on/off with the indicator could be linked to the reversing light if this is part the RH rear light cluster.
