964 RSR 3.8 RHD!

Today, I got offered a RIGHT HAND DRIVE 964 RSR. Yes, that's right. A genuine, factory supplied RHD car that was built specially for Alan Hamilton to race. And it won the Porsche Cup in Oz in 1995, beating all the LHD cars (what do you expect) I hope to find out for sure, but we believe it has POWER STEERING, which probably explains why it was so quick[;)]

I believe the car to be 100% genuine. Although I wasb't allowed to write down the chassis number (unless I was serious) there was a copy of a letter from Porsche AG confirming the car was genuine.

It seems that Alan Hamilton is responsible for a lot of "strange " RHD Porsches. He was the Porsche importer here and also raced. I am still checking out the story of the RHD racing 993 GT2 but was told today it does exist.

However, there was one stunning bit of kit at this dealer, namely the first Turbo bodied car that Porsche ever made, finished as a RHD RS 3.0. Look at it here http://www.classicthrottleshop.com/car23.html

Only problem was that they wanted £240,000 for it. They said they would take th '64 RS in part X but I think the wife would cut my bits off if I were even to think about it[:(]

Paul Howells used to have a RHD racing 993 GT2. I think Paul McLean owns it now. Could be wrong.

Simon....I see you visited Classic Throttle Shop !
When I was over in Sydney in September I paid them a visit, got chatting to Jeremy Best who mentioned the 964 3.8 RSR....we had a brief discussion about it, he mentioned the price, I went cold and that was that.

They've got some nice kit in there huh ? They sold the RHD red 3.0 RS to Export 56 that recently appeared in 911 & PW. Not sure about the pricing on some of those 2.4s Targa's they have had through there....VERY nice cars nonetheless.

Don't worry about the wife...she'll come round, maybe it's the tartan interior ??

cheers

I am sure one of the Pauls told me there were 2 Rhd GT2R cars made?

Yes 2 made in RHD Pauls will be out again this year in the Open and maybe the 90s Gt revival race in May.

You got it in one. What a great business Jeremy and Rory have.

It was quite an eye opener.Lots of great cars ranging from the good value to the rediculous! It seems that Porsche's and Ferrari's are in demand, E-Types are cheap!

They also had details of a RHD 964RS, currently in Hong Kong, that has only 10,000 km on the clock.

It was interesting that they were very keen to buy my car!

I'll look you up in a few years when we get down there and we can go into competition [:D]

It is a nice set up they have got down there.......

Simon , thats odd they would not let you write down the chassis No!
What were they afraid of?

To be fair, they didn't own the car but had been offered it themselves. They showed me the details and I said that I could check out the chassis number. Over here, I believe you can trace the owner from a chassis number so they were only trying to protect their business. It looked like it had the correct sequence of letters and numbers but I cannot remember a VIN that I only see for a brief time[&:]

Hi Simon, you didnt need to go all that way ......... a simple sorry I was wrong about the price of your GT3 would have been enough mate [;)]

A friend has just bought an interesting RS that I will post details of once he has possesion of it, as always will look forward to your comments.

Regards

Was I wrong? [;)] I am sure some really cheap ones have been offered around recently!

However, at least GT3 owners in the UK use their cars properly. From what I can tell, all the GT3 owners over here are just posers and don't take the cars on the track. I am nit sure I understand it. Roads here are worse than the UK, speeds are lower and people stick to the limits. If you aren't doing trackdays, what's the point in having a car like a GT3?
