964 RS NGT considering buying

dasandro

New member
Been offered a LHD 1992 car in Rubystone with 50k km full history 2 owners.I have yet to establish if its had any paint or panel work and what track use its had.Not with a dealer or advertised as far as I am aware its in Italy.Been offered to me via a contact (broker) that trades in all types classics in a small way.
A few questions:
1.Assuming its all ok and original and in good order.Just had service. What is it worth ?
2.Is thee any VAT to pay on importation ?

Many factors to consider in valuation, such as originality, service history, does it have the mag wheels......possible, but unlikely that an NGT has not been tracked.....try to get some perspective, "there are none left in the bordello!" etc.....

With so little to go on, it should be worth £60-75k depending on condition and how much it needs spending on it to bring it up to scratch.....A wide spread.to start, it could be $65-70k...based on other cars that have been available recentlym but I wouldn't look for an excuse to pay up. Recent changes to car taxation laws means there are quite a few 160bhp+ cars for sale out of Italy...maybe a forced seller???

I thought you could move privately purchased secondhand cars around in the Eu without paying vat???

Yes.Details a little vague I now at this stage-it has just been serviced, usual new plugs, oil, filter.Needs new tyres-all negotiable.
i have many good photos.Plesae send me your email address and I will send them to you.
Cheers

Have you verified that it is a genuine 003 NGT? Martin (964 Database) may be able to help you by checking the VIN.

Lots of European NGTs I've seen on Autoscout and Mobil.de have been messed with, or been 'Ruf'ed or had 3.8 litre mods, or big wings added - the list goes on.

I had a quick look on those web-sites for you and there is nothing similar advertised. Paul is spot on with the pricing - conditionally based on condition, no damage history and complete paperwork.

If it's been tracked this is actually a benefit. Experience on this forum is that taking garage queens and show cars onto the track or fast road use by new owners may require additional upkeep and the threat of surprises.

Cost of a recent service and new tyres will be insignficant, next to whether it has original parts and whether the engine is OK. As said above

- Check it has the mags
- Check its a genuine NGT from chassis number
- Get its history - as much as possible
- Check the seats are the recaros
- Check the cage is a welded Matter
- Check the bonnet is ali
- check it has the floor mounted twin fire exinguishers
- check it has the original steering wheel
- Check for space saver, and toolkit, compressor (just in case)
- have a leak down list
- ask for the wagonpass (if it has been raced - just in case).

I'm sure a few other things will come to mind too.

You dont say what you want the car for. If you are after an original paint, original panel unraced garage queen, then there is a lot more work to do to get that verified.

dont be scared of a car thats done track work, there are some very nice cars used on track and even ex-race cars.

Price - wouldnt like to comment without knowing details, but between £55-120k, depending on conidition and originality. Cant say you see many cars as cheap as £55, or many as expensive as £120, but a lot in the 60-75 bracket.

If you want a useable car, and are prepared to take a bit of well repaired damage, then you are looking for slightly different things.

Melvin,
It looks like it could well be the same car that you saw for sale at the end of last year.Do you have any particulars of it ?

dasandro......you may have misquoted there...Melvin, normally posts under the name "Melv".

He may well have heard of this car, it is not one I am familiar with, although a couple of rubtstone M003 have come up in recent years.
