964 RS 3.8 engine...

Right folks...
The restoration of my RS 3.8 to it's original colour is nearly done... and I'm thinking again about whether to chuck that Gemballa lump back into it... while 450bhp/550nm is always interesting, I do fancy making the car properly original.

Now given I don't suppose anyone out there has a 3.8 motor being unused in the corner of the garage, what are my options? And RSR engine will I guess need regular re-builds and not be ideal for the road... what else can I do though??

All suggestions appreciated

Rick

Ok…. I would keep the current motor, your intercoolers were beautifully engineered so you could have the attractive active spoiler sleek look. However you want an original look, well you can obviously put a 3,8 spoiler wing on the car, nobody will know until you put the foot down!

If you want to go normally aspirated 3,8 route and try and strangle circa 360 ponies, with constant tuning little torque and a rebuild after 40 hours then fine, I think the 964 RS 3,8 engine claimed only 300 BHP as standard same as 993RS 3,8 engine.

I know someone who may be selling a 3,8RS (993) engine ….. this would be varioslip … however it could be built to any 3,8 spec you want from cup to RSR …. I was told.

Personally keep what you have under the hood …..

Des, any idea roughly what that 3.8 RS 993 engine would cost? It's an option worth looking at I'd guess and probably closest in spirit.

I've put the 3.8 RS wing back on the car, but I agree giving up that much torque is going to be a heartbreaker... but if I had to sell the car one day, guessing I'd get more value for it closer to original spec. (Although wife has told be in no uncertain terms the car is NOT to be sold!).

Cheers
Rick

Personally I would keep what you have in the Infineon and buy the 993RS 3,8 engine and crate it and maybe have it RSR specced ££££
will PM you the vendor … if its still for sale.

Didn't get a PM Des.... any idea how much chap is asking as well as restoration has hit my liquidity somewhat so don't want to waste his time...

I sent it to an email address I had for you about 4 years back, it did not bounce, looking at trying to PM you through here, but can't see it …. so will try again.
