964 Meet and Trackday at Curborough Sprint Course

I am organising a day at the Curborough Sprint Course in Staffordshire for us to try out our pride and joys in the relative safety of one car on track at a time. The track offers a variety of layouts and is as accommodating for those who just want to spectate as for those testing their skills on the track. You don't have to book the track time to enjoy this day because just like all our other meets, the day is all about meeting other 964 owners with the added bonus of seeing some cars in action.

The cost is £45 for those who want to take their car on track with passenger rides being free. Spectating and meeting others is of course also free. With a driver briefing at 11 am and the circuit open from 11:30 am until 4:30 pm there's plenty of scope for an entertaining and thoroughly enjoyable day and time for people to travel to and from the circuit on the same day. Helmets are NOT required although they are optional and, perhaps, recommended. There is a tea and coffee cabin on site that is normally open if we can promise good numbers (but bring some butties just in case).

Curborough is situated 20 miles North of Birmingham off the A38 trunk road between Burton on Trent and Lichfield in Staffordshire. The venue is Brown Signed once you are off the A38, and also the A515 from the West. Their web site is available at http://www.curborough.co.uk.

To register your interest in either taking part or just spectating, please visit the Doodle page here and leave your name and preference. The event is designed to run with 15 cars but we can accomodate up to 20 cars if there is a high demand for places.

Once people have registered on the Doodle page I will e-mail those who select the track option with details of how to pay. To ensure I have your correct e-mail address please send me an e-mail through my profile.

No need to be afraid...you can go at whatever pace you want...nobody to worry about in front of you and no one hassling from behind. After the first run most people can't wait to have a go at the next one []

If you have the space might a slow GT3 take part - I am happy to be a reserve entry as clearly it aint a 964 - but I did use to own one............

Add yourself to the doodle list Richard (link in first post). You'll be 5th reserve at the moment. The first 20 will be e-mailed to send me their payment. If anyone then decides to change their mind, their place will be offered to then next person on the list.

p.s. In my experience there's no such thing as a slow GT3 []

What's the insurance situation? Obviously a sprint track is a bit different from a circuit race, for the reasons you state.

BTW, how come PCGB track days are so expensive and this is such good value?

My own policy allows for trackdays however like most similar policies it's only applicable to MSA approved circuits and track day organisers that are members of the 'association of track day organisers'. Curborough is not MSA approved and it's a privately organanised event therefore my insurance will not apply. However bearing in mind the much lower speeds involved compared to a normal trackday (especially the corners) and that trackday insurance usually has an excess of at least 10% of the car's value, it's unlikely that the insurance would be of any benefit to any damage you might suffer. IMHO driving curborough is much safer than blasting down a country lane at just above the national speed limit.

PCGB trackdays are run on circuits that cost thousands of pounds to hire for the day (I believe Oulton Park is £8,000+ in the summer). Curborough is peanuts in comparison and if there's any clearing up to do e.g. sprinkling cement dust on oil spills, we have to do it ourselves [].

Anyone coming along to just spectate and enjoy the day will no doubt be persuaded to do some flag waving duties (I hope you're reading this Dave [])

The other thing I'm doing is looking into getting an instructor to come along who would be available to sit in with anyone who think they would benefit from a bit of on board help.
