I have a 964 C4 1990 model and it needs a new cam cover as it is slowly leaking oil from what we think is a hairline crack - part no P964.105.116.03. I know I could replace with the OEM Porsche product but I believe a billet machined from solid cover manufactured in the USA is also available. Has anyone in the 964 Register had any experience of the Rennline billet cover . Any feedback would be much appreciated. Look forward to your response. Many thanks

964 C4 Lower Cam cover

Yes I have the solid machined Alloy covers on the top and lower Cam's .
I imported mine direct from the manufacture in the USA a few years ago and now Rennline and Design911 sell them here ..possibly from the same source ? Sorry I can't remember who the direct manufacture was.
They make a big difference in noise levels, as well as no leaks and I've taken my off a couple of times now to adjust the tappets with no issues .
I do make sure I use Genuine Porsche rubber seals, not OEM or pattern ones and we get 10% at Dealers in any case .
On my last lot (few weeks ago ) I noticed Porsche have a use by date as well on the gaskets , as the rubber must go off ?

I think you will also find Porsche will want over £288 + VAT per Cover !!!
96410511603 LID £288.34
They do take quite a bounding from the exchaust heat which is why they leak/crack etc
And I have just found who I imported mine from way back and replaced all 4 covers

I've got some of the American billet covers and they're not very good. They also weep. Mine were made by imagine auto. At the next service I'm going to replace them with Porsche new ones. At least with genuine Porsche parts you know that they will work.
Mine are fine but I don't think there the same as Steve's

Hi Ian, your Hargett ones have had favorable reviews on Rennlist. They do both upper and lower covers and are both shown on Type911s website and come out at £260 + VAT for a pair. Here's the link to the covers on their nice new website:
http://type911shop.co.uk/epages/de867ca1-377e-432e-84fd-bdccf2206766.sf/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/de867ca1-377e-432e-84fd-bdccf2206766/Categories/Shipping/186/191/1999
Interestingly they have covers on that link that look like Porsche ones but are only £84 + VAT each!
AFAIK the genuine Porsche ones are now made from Aluminum rather than magnesium and are a bit cheaper than they used to be @ £190 + VAT each, according to:
http://www.design911.co.uk/fu/prod2758/Engine-Camshaft-Cover-LOWER-Porsche-964-C2-C4-1989-93/
I'll find out for sure in the next few weeks when I have new ones fitted.
My Imagine Auto billets are no longer available - I think the company went bust!
