944T for breaking/project

A trailer came down my road the other day with a gorgeous looking dark grey 944T on the back so I popped out to have a look. It was a salvage lorry and had picked the car up from somewhere near Aylesbury from a distraught owner that had been forced to write the car off!

To be honest it looked almost cosmetic damage to me, I would guess that it had been 'tapped' from behind and pushed into a car in front. It obviously needed new bumpers and nose panel but that was really all it looked like - it didn't seem structural at all - obviously I don't really know but I guess that all those official Porsche parts and the labour may push it into an uneconomical repair?

From my quick look, it was 138k with Toyo's on black D90s, clear lenses, linen leather heated seat interior with the big bolsters as well as the speaker upgrade, aircon and a bridge spoiler. The reg No was H135 XUB and there were RPM Technik number plate surrounds and tax disk holder on the car so I am sure that Ollie will know something of the history.

Anyhow the very friendly chap driving the lorry said that it will be auctioned through the salvage website www.hbc.co.uk and should be up there in the next week or so.

Looks to be this one:

I had a look at it when it was for sale near Aylesbury (2 or 3 weeks ago). Car was a reasonable example (rust starting inside arches & sills, passenger mirror hanging off, interior quite worn); but I decided against it in the end.

I guess it got sold shortly afterwards and somebody had a moment?

That's Steve's (simkin911) old car! Omg I bet the new owner is gutted. I so had my eye in that car and think the new owner had got a bargain. Steve gave me the heads up on it and how much money has been spent on it. I hope it can be rescued would be a shame to lose it [:(]

Or it didn't sell and the owner found an alternative way to turn the car into cash!!!

This is unlikely as Nick (who bought the car from me) has a envious collection of cars and isn't, I suspect, in need of resorting to those measures.

Andy, thanks for PM'ing me re this. It was a decent car which I did spend thousands on within a short space of time. Delivered the power surge like a sledge hammer which isn't everyone's cup of tea but it was entertaining.

Depending on the extent of the damage and the price it reaches, I may even try to buy it back. [:)]

I am surprised re the reference to sills and rust as it had new sills (from Porsche last summer) and I spent £1500 on body work alone. The inner sills - of which I had photos - were in decent shape and only one corner had needed some attention and this was done.

When I bought it the bodywork was in poor poor shape. The interior, in my opinion, was quite decent with only the typical wear on drivers seat - and I supplied genuine matching vinyl with the car to facilitate a repair to the seat.

I did an inspection for Nick that bought the car from Steve, was a solid car in the nicest colour. Steve spent a good bit of dough on it including paintwork. One well worth having a punt on. I have all the parts to repair it in stock up here as well.

Hi

My son in law took it out for a an hour as he had just turned 30 and was insured to drive the car but spun the car in the wet and did 12.5k damage to the car. Total write off.
The day before i let him take my 993 out but he managed to bring that back ok.
It was a good car and i was gutted but no one got hurt.

Nick,
sorry to hear about your misfortune, but good that everyone is well,

the key words above that ring in my ear are, "wet,[&:] sledgehammer[&:]" and any driver who is unfamiliar with Porsche engine outputs[&:],

...and I'd be wary of "3.6 turbo[:)] Maritime[8D] blue" in such situations[8|].

your 944t was probably my favourite off the colour chart when new, but red or black seem to have popped up when I was in the market.

You're not quite on the bus or bicycle yet, but will likely replace it I imagine....[;)]

Car sold at auction for £3060 to porrec. The guy there is hoping to use it as a track car.

If you click on the photos you will see some more photos of the damage. Cat C.

Am I the only person that is surprised by the price that some damaged or project cars reach at auction (salvage / Ebay etc) versus the price you pay to buy a road going or non-damaged example?

Just a thought....

No you are not! [&:] They seem to fetch strong money at times in various forms of bentness or disablement, which I suppose is not bad if you happen to bend your own. [:'(]
