944t caliper removal

Just trying to get the best advice together for removal of my front calipers. Some dumb questions arise in my mind....

One puzzle is - how best to disconnect them from the brake lines. I seem to remember a post about having to rotate the calipers to reduce stress to the brake pipes but I can't find it.

And then - do I just let all the fluid drain out of the lines, or is there a neat trick for at least keeping the brake lines filled with fluid? Or at least minimizing the spill. That should make bleeding again afterwards easier, right?

If you are removing the calipers then you are better off replacing all of the fluid anyway. Best not to remove the flexis or copper lines from the rear until you have removed the calipers complete with them. There should be unions to allow you to do this. You will have to remove the wheel arch liners at the fron though.
 
Why is it better to remove the flexi cables with the calipers rather than leave them on and just remove the caliper?

I was intending to replace the fluid - one point is that I thought it would be easier to bleed if there was no air in the system to start with.

One complication is I want to do the job in the garage, but it will be difficult to park it so there is access to all four wheels AND a decent amount of room to replace the front calipers. I was hoping to replace each front caliper in turn, quick bleed of that side and then move the car over to do the other side, followed by a complete bleed of all four once the new calipers were on.

It won the battle to buy a house with a garage.... but it's not the widest garage (though quite long).

I have just done one on mine to change to a goodridge hose, wasnt too bad, crack the flexi host whilst on the car, then when removed you kind of have to spin the caliper to remove it.

Also not sure why. I left the flexi joint alone and undid fitting on actual caliper. Seemed not to put any strain on anything. Watch out for two big spacer washers that fall out as you remove rear calipers. If you forget them when assembling again, you end up tightening the caliper onto the disc[:eek:]
