944S front suspension dampers replacement

Just to remove some options, I checked PET2 today for the shocks

Front
944S 1987 >> 944 343 031 17 Left Hand is NLA, 944 343 032 17 Right Hand is available @ £305.76

Rear
944S 1987 >> 951 333 032 05 NLA, the only ones still available are for M474 or M030,

M474 951 333 032 01 @ £205.01 each
M030 951 333 032 04 @ £235.38 each

So if it was all available from OPC, the bill for just the dampers would be £1010.00, by the time you have added dust boot and bump stops add another £100 ish

the change to B6 or Koni would be the best part of £500 cheaper

Hi all
I spoke with Hatfield Porsche they told me both fronts are NLA and awaiting interest for a re-stock if and when.
GAZ are good value for money but unsure of other fitment parts are required too.
NickSport offers a comprehensive menu breakdown on what and each process costs even down to replacing bolt/nuts etc, so they come with a wealth of knowledge too which just feels comfortable the all-round replacement (Front and backs) is £1100 inc vat (including assorted bolts, eccentric bolts, washers etc) Keeping original Coils though.
I just have to get to the ones on mine to see exactly what struts I have fitted either being original still or replacement fitted ie having crimped of serviceable screw tops.....Christmas got in the way to investigate TBC soon

Cheers

Hi John, just thought I'd throw in my two penny's worth. I've just had mine done by Nickson and posted some pointers based on my experience. Hope it helps you!

Good luck.

Back to Front Struts have anyone heard of these, GABRIEL Oddly, my daughter lives only 10miles away from them in Melbourne Oz and possibly could bring them over....

They probably invented shock absorbers...!

Haha didn't know that but are they any good though?

Friend of mine had a front set on his square dash 944, the car was wallowing like a Cadillac. This was hilarious but would not exactly qualify as good.

So this is what I have fitted, System2 Suspension Performance Technology black struts with silver top caps. Had a quick search online perhaps German manufacture. So with this I'm unsure I'm may be already running modified and with different coils too, my 944s has upgraded calipers fitted 4 pot Brembo and half axles/stubs from a later S2 and S2 sized discs too instead of the standard single pot 944S calipers and smaller discs. So if they're upgraded struts fitted I'm not sure about if they're suitable for cutting installing B6's
Also, how do you remove the top silver cap I had tried levering it off but do you have to be forceful with them?

Comments most welcome

John

option 3
koni insert 20 mm lower
...
that about covers the options
there are others but they will custom made, and very expensive

Sorry to nitpick BUT Koni inserts are available for standard replacement (Not M030 or sport suspension) - NO lowering - have some on my S2. These are the shorten and drill the original strut body to accept the insert style. Matching adjustable rear shocks are available.
General comment on Gabriel, Monroe, etc... In North America, these brands are not known for quality or respected as options for sporty cars. Gabriel and Monroe (actually OEM on some 911s - for the first 30k maybe :) were used on the typical North American land yachts that wallowed down the expressways and other high speed straight line roads. While my perception may not be accurate for worldwide product - it seems their performance and lifespan are commensurate with their relative low cost.
