944S at auction

I like the idea of a 994S - not sure what one is mind!
Description is a bit guarded - in need of TLC - anyone else read its a bit knackered? However it will be interesting to see what it goes for.
The Dorset classic car auctions (actually in Somerset I think) have a lux with a guide price of 4K......

The 944S cost too much and delivered too little. Power is up to 190-odd bhp, but you have to cane the arse off them to see it. Any 16v car really only shows an advantage beyond 4500rpm, but the S needs its neck wringing everywhere to make decent progress. Their lack of torque is the principal reason for them being 'less reliable' than the similar S2: you didnt have the thrap the S2 to make progress, so they suffer less.

Dont misunderstand me, I quite like them, from a technical point of view, but even Porsche admitted that they cost far too much and delivered way too little. An indy acquaintance of mine once had seven of the damned things lined up in his warehouse waiting in turn for replacement heads. The problems from which they suffer are common knowledge now, but Id still opt for a realistically priced S2 over an optimistically priced (as most are) S.

A friend of mine recently sold the best example that Ive seen this decade, but my old dog of a track car was quicker point to point...

But a realistically priced "s" is possibly the bargain of the line-up now? [8|]

I agree completely Paul. Such a shame the 944S gets such a bad write up everywhere. It's just different, worse in some areas (i.e. away from a standstill) but better in others, but most importantly mine is fantastic fun to keep on the boil over a sweeping A road. I also think it would make a cracking track car for the money, more powerful than a Lux in the powerband that will be used there and lighter than an S2 (the brakes should be sufficient with some proper pads and fluid). Naturally you can tell I haven't thought about this. Not for one second. Oh no. Honest. Now will everyone stop talking about trackdays...

You'll here nothing from me..........

Any progress with your actual track car, one you get that back it will banish any thoughts about tracking the daily driving S

How about making it another red 944 at Donington on Oct 31st Peter?
it would be a shame not to drive it for one last time before they change it [;)]

I did a couple of days there in my 924S's & even with 160 bhp it was still great.

I didn't really want to say anything, but there's a slim chance my white car may be ready for the end of next month (although probably without any boost). I'd rather not take the 944S, I'm sure the car would be great there, but whilst the tyres are fine for the road I'm doubtful they'll be much use on track and the brakes need a proper going over if it's not to prove really frustrating. I'm off to see the white one again tomorrow afternoon and the cage should be in and painted by then [:D] so it's starting to get there now! Lots still to do, but at least it's another job ticked off.
