944 wings-differences ?

Guys
I need a new front wing for my early 944. A local guy has one but isn't sure whether it's early or series 2. How can I tell the difference?
Cheers

Yes, but I don't know what car this is from. How do the early and S2 differ? Is it easy to tell?
Thanks.

All Lux (series one and two) and "S" wings are the same. S2 and Turbo are a different shape at the front where they join the PU. If he doesn't know then the only way is to send you a picture and compare it with yours.

The front corner shows the difference.

I see that my series two / S2 crusade has paid off![:D]

OP: S2 in 944S2 doesnt stand for series two - the series two cars are identified by their oval dash. All S2s are series two cars, but most series two cars arent S2s (S2 stands for Super 2, its the second 16v Super model, the first being the 1987-1988 944S).

As stated the series one and series two wings are similar, although therell probably be an aerial hole in a series one NS wing. The S2 uses Turbo style wings and the difference can be seen in the picture of the gold car above.

Yes Edd, thought it was a good example of an S2 front end [;)]

John - a picture is worth a thousand words etc [:)]

It certainly is Mike! [:D]

Anyhoo, went and saw the wing. It is an early one in very nice condition, so I bought it at a VERY Reasonable price ! [;)]

Out of curiosity, has anyone tried to modify a non-Turbo front wing to fit a turbo/S2? I've never compared the two side-by-side, but the S2/Turbo wings are a LOT more expensive than the Lux ones, and harder to find second-hand. If the differences are small, converting from one to the other may not be that hard.

My husband converted mine. It is posted on the "projects page" on the 924 owners club. If you are not a member I am sure I can get him to post something on here if anyone is considering doing it themselves, as it is definitely a more affordable option.

Thanks 944ventiler - so it can be done. That's good ... do you have a link to the projects page you mentioned?

Thanks.

Many people Oli. In most cases they start to rust - the only real difference between a good and a bad job is the time it takes to start.

Starts to rust along the join, you mean?

Surely that can't be too hard to solve; some decent preparation, good painting and good anti-rust on the back.

Here is the link for the 944 to 944S2/turbo front wing conversion. You are welcome to post any information or pictures from the forum onto this forum. Any questions give him a shout. This was done quickly so he will add some more info when he gets a chance.
