944 Turbo on eBay seems wrong??

ORIGINAL: Eldavo

Maybe that's the ploy, you can turn up to view and not pay if the condition isn't as advertised but given there isn't really any discussion about the condition you have to buy it. Simples!

It's advertised as:

Porsche 944 turbo 1991 j reg excellent condition inside and out 75000 genuine miles full service history guards red white leather colour combination drives like new one of best examples in country

If any part of that description turns out to be incorrect you have the right to refuse to pay up on seeing it. You'd have to claim your deposit back, but a clear breach of the description and you'll have no problem with that.

A single missing piece of history, it being linen not white leather, if it doesn't drive like new, and it's arguably been misdescribed. That's why a more detailed listing leads to less problems; if you've made every effort to point out any faults, however tiny, the buyer doesn't have the right to pull out.

So I can bid £20k and if not 100% happy can walk away or reduce my offer to £2500 [:D]

Yes. In practice, your feedback would not be great if you did it regularly. But, neither would the sellers. I think there a difference between paying a fair price and finding out the car isn't as advertised, and bidding high with no intention of paying it, when the seller has been honest.

With ebay you've only committed to buy what the seller has advertised. If you got there and it turned out to be a Corsa and not the 944 in the pictures you'd not pay for it, so if it's not the exceptional car described that's the same thing. You could rediuce the price, or walk away, just as with any other car sale.

The deposit, if they ask for one at the end of the auction, would need to be claimed back through ebay, but from what I hear they are pretty good if you have a reasonable case against the seller for misdescription. This one doesn't even ask for a deposit, though.

I'd still be very wary of buying a car I'd not seen, though. Not worth the hassle if it goes wrong IMO.

The DVLA details seem to tally (also, it's confirmed as taxed until 31 Jan 2014) and the MID database shows the car as currently insured. Listing implies that it will be withdrawn if not reaching the required level - seller can do that up to 24 hours before sale. Sellers can't leave negative feedback for buyers any more so if you win, turn up and it is mis-described, no problem.

DVLA listing:

Year of Manufacture 1991
Cylinder Capacity (cc) 2479cc

Vehicle Colour RED

Isnt Alan Partridge a character, rather than a real person? Now if youd said that youd missed out on Alan Partridges Rover 827 then I would have understood...

lol, im only going on what the advert said! i think he just means it was owned by a chap called alan partridge!
item number 321074987152

sold at 2551, although wether it actually sold is another question.

If anyone is after a nice late turbo like this and misses out on this one, Paul Stephen Porsche have a lovely low owner/mileage example for only £18k...

No bids for five days now. I wonder if anyone has managed to pin the owner down and actually view the car yet?

I made some bids (just incase it went cheap) but had an email saying my bids had been cancelled,so did the seller just stop the auction or maybe Someone just bought it direct...??

As you know Martin if I didn't have my house on the market and a few outgoings to contend with, ie Cup 1's and buying my son a new car plus a visit next week to Hartech, I would be strongly contemplating the same car myself.

Cheers, Paul
