944 Turbo Newbie checking In.

Ex Skyline

New member
Hello everyone,
My name is Pete (Ex-Skyline), just thought i'd say hi and introduce myself as i have just joined PCGB. I have always had Jap turbo nutter cars such as Pulsar's, Skyline's etc but, deep down ,always hankered after a Porsche as a track car. That wish has now been realised with my wife Sarah, buying me a lovely, black 944 Turbo for my 55th birthday last Saturday! I had been looking at it on Pistonheads for the past couple of weeks and, exchanged a few e-mails with the vendor. Sarah picked up on this and, as they say, "Robert is your father's brother"! 911's are fantastic cars but, everyone and his dog seems to have one these days. I love the smooth lines of the 944 and am thrilled to have one at last! I have just taken delivery of it and, it is absolutely superb. Much better than i had expected from the photographs. So, you will see a lot of me on here asking all sorts of dumb questions that have probably been asked a thousand times before so, please bear with me. Many thanks guys and girls.
Best regards
Pete [8D]

Did you buy my old car, G161 WJK (from memory!), that was recently on Pistonheads?

Hi guys, thank you for the warm welcome! Yes Ewan, sounds like it is indeed your old car. I bought it from a chap up in Scotland, Dundee i think. It is in top notch condition for a twenty two year old car. It is being valeted tomorrow (weather permitting) and i will try to put up some piccys then (although i am crap with cameras and computers)!

Well done Pete and welcome to the 944 Forum! I suspect the chap you bought the car from won't be attending the meeting of 944 owners on Sunday now then! Have fun.

I knew and drove that car for about 10 years whilst it was owned by a business partner and another old school chum of ours. Would have been between about 1995 and 2005. At that stage it was in "as Porsche intended" condition, with no mods. Always kept properly serviced, by Chapelgate while it was in Dorset and then Charles Ivey when it was in London. Hopefully this service history is still with the car, but if it has been lost I can at least vouch for the car during this time.

My current Turbo is in with Jon at JMG at the moment, so next time I visit I'll ask if he recalls what he did to your new toy, as I believe that it he has breathed on it since the last time I drove it.

We all loved it, and it was only finally sold as the then owner moved to Spain and the office stable by then consisted of a Porsche 993, a Ferrari 550, a Lamborghini Diablo, a Mini Moke, an Austin Healy Sprite, a Range Rover and a few others so we decided that a 944 was surplus to requirements. Which was of course wrong, hence I bought another one, this time in white. The golden rule about multiple car ownership is, always find space for a 944 Turbo!

I have a massive history file which i havent had time to go through properly yet but, i checked out the number plate with Jon Mitchel, he was very helpful and confirmed that it was a great car and that he had "breathed on it" quite heavily over the years which, warmed the cockles of my heart, so to speak! I plan to do a lot more to it so i will be asking for suggestions as i am not really au fait with the marque. The advert is still on Pistonheads classified if you want to have a read on whats been done to it? It's on page 3 and the advertiser hails from Fife. It is up for ÂŁ4,950.00 but, i paid ÂŁ4,200.00 in the end. Please tell me what you think.

Good looking car and good value at that price - and of course everyone knows black ones are the fastest of all [;)] Will be interesting what you make of the handling with such large wheels on it.

To would seem an opportunist moment to point out I am currently selling a set of turbo D90s with track tyres! [8|]

When I knew it it had the original forged Turbo alloys, which suited the car far better than those now fitted (IMHO). My advice is to get a set of these again (or perhaps some Cup 1's). You could fit some D90's from an S2 as they look broadly similar, but it would cheapen it when compared to using proper forged Turbo alloys. (Stand back and wait for the fireworks from our S2 owning friends!).

I see the advert calls it a Turbo S. But I distinctly recall it being an SE. Maybe the last owner didn't know what he had.

Welcome to 944 ownership!! Jap cars are ok but nothing feels like a Porsche.

P.s. Black is not the fastest colour!!! we all know it's ..........................................................................................

Welcome to the forum and Porsche Ownership Pete, the chat's racy but rarely oversteps the mark!

Enjoy the boost, the balance and the attention

Hi UKmastiff,

I think I have your old black Turbo - Bought from James. Keep meaning to introduce myself but car has been in for a new steering rack so haven't had it to take some pics etc. Still going strong and loving it!

Oh and welcome to Pete! You've found the right place!

Blimey that car gets around a bit.
I first came across it when a chap I know in Bristol swopped an elan M100 for it from a chap in London. Tower Porsche knew it well then it seemed. That was about 2008.
I was going to see it and most likely buy it but someone got in before me and it went to Surrey. Changed hands there a couple of times and then by co incidence I bought the CS wheels off ebay, so the wheels you knew Ewan are refurbed and on my car now.

I noticed that it had been sold from Surrey not that long ago and then reappeared for sale on the east coast of Scotland.

I thought it was an S - certainly it had yellow M030 struts - although on a G it would be a bit new for an S

Anyway always looked a good car and certainly has had some money spent on it. Hope you enjoy it Pete.

Welcome onboard Pete, sounds like you have bought a nice one.

Can't wait to see pics of it when it's all valeted and shiney. If you need any help resizing or posting pictures just ask [:)]

Hi all, What a friendly welcome! Just had the valeting done today and it looks the mutz nutz! I really am over the moon with it. It drives superb and i think this one is going to be a keeper and, a bit of an evo project, see how far i can go with it. It is defo going to get "tracked" and no mistake. I got home from work a bit too late to take some photos and am stupid busy for the rest of this week so it might have to wait till the weekend but, i will post some. I will have loads of tuning questions to ask so i appologise in advance if i drive you all mad! Someone on Northloop said that instead of the performance air filter drawing in lots of hot air from behind the radiator, i would be much better off with the original air box set up. Any other suggestions? The advert pictures are still on Pistonheads if anyone wants to take a look (please see my previous posts). Thanks for any advice fellas.
Pete
