Theres always a buyer though for something regarded as rare or special, the white turbo looks amazing under the bonnet, not many left as nice as that.It sold quite quick aswell, maybe they should have asked for 17k!

....... take a look at the MGB roaster on the same dealer site! Just 74 miles in 28 years from new!!

Now that will have some problems to solve!!

While I am not a great advocate of such things that really should be locked in a glass case as a reference piece for history. Some have done so with the truly exotic but there is almost more merit in preserving mint examples of the more mundane.

That never was a particularly great drive so it will seem even worse in comparison to todays cars. Don't drive it - lock it up and look at it. It is an automotive antique, the motoring equivalent of an vintage port. It is the prospect of enjoying it which should be savoured not the execution.

I was about 2 hours late visiting the dealer to look at this car. I have been looking for an excellent example for some time, and a friend who owns a 944 and is well connected assures me this is an outstanding example, mechanically and otherwise.

This post gives me the chance to say two things:

1) If you are reading this and are the new owner, I would be willing to consider paying a premium to buy this car.

2) If anyone knows of a similarly good car, I would be very interested. I am looking for a late model, bridge spoiler Turbo.

On point 2, let me expand. I am a driver, first and foremost, not a collector. I am looking for a car in first rate mechanical condition, as well as excellent bodyshell and interior condition. I put condition over mileage (I am lucky enough to have a lovely 45,000 mile 911 Club Sport and a 56,000 mile 964 Turbo), and I tend to put on about 5,000 to 10,000 miles on each car p.a. - as I say, I love driving.

I have had a number of fabulous drives in 944s - they are truly wonderful Porsches that are 100% worthy of the name (more so, IMHO, than some dubious 911 models that have been sold over the years!) - and it's long overdue that I started enjoying the pleasure of owning one.

Kind regards

Steve

Steve - see if you can get hold of SimonP (Simon Peckham) - his car will be just what you're looking for (with the addition of a bridge spoiler hatch [:D] )

I have his mobile number if you want to email or pm me

Seconded, or also the ex-RPM car that's been talked about a lot here.

Both cars are more "restored" than shrink-wrapped originals, but that's not a bad thing.

Hi Steve
I'm toying with idea of selling my car. Don't know if it's the sort of thing you'd be interested in

1991 944 turbo S - Alpine white - white interior
Mileage 119,000
Quaife ATB torque sensing differential
968 CS anti roll bars
968 front brake cooling ducts
M030 brakes - Performance friction pads
Stainless steel brake lines
Spec stage 3 clutch
Spec lightweight flywheel
Koni M030 adjustable shocks (one rear might need a rebuild)
Promax stage 2 kit (DPW, 55lb injectors,3 bar FPR & chip)
Innovate Motorsports LC-1/XD-16 wideband
Knocklite Knock Detector and Combined Shift Light
Apexi AFC fuel controller
Apexi AVC boost controller
Front strut brace
Stainless steel brake lines
Genuine 17" 968 CS alloys with Toyo T1-R tyres
Original 16" wheels fitted with Pilot Cup tyres
Probably a few other things I can't remember.

Bad points, bodywork needs some work - I was quoted £800 to sort some rust mainly on front wheel arches. Interior good but not perfect. I've done about 8 track days in it but none in the last couple of years. It's been serviced by Promax for the last few years, Andy or Roger can give you any info you need on the car. I'm in no rush to sell particularly but it'll probably go some time later this year.

Haven't really decided yet. My daughter turns 17 in November so we need a third car that's a little more practical. Don't really fancy her learning to drive in mine!

You know you'll regret it. How many years have you had the car now?

Just a thought, but what about buying a knackered old Yaris instead of selling selling the 944? [:)]

Well given that most of us are not into concours I am not surprised at some of the negativity. This car would surely be a perfect starting point for a concours turbo project.

Too many toys for concours maybe ?, good track day or fast road project though.

You are right, the Nutley car was returned by its new buyer after 3 days. It seems the chap (an expat) had a change of circumstances - I don't know any more than that.

So, thanks to Matthew at Nutley who kindly called me on Thursday, I completed the deal on the white car yesterday, and drove it home this afternoon. It really is lovely and I am so looking forward to many memorable drives.

The only matter of regret is that I have had to withdraw from buying Simon's red car. I took that car very seriously, had it inspected and left Simon with a deposit. I had no idea the white car would so unexpectedly become available again, but once it did I had to take a look. In the end, I chose originality over restoration, which was a personal choice and no comment at all on Simons's car which was fantastic in its own right. The engine in that red car is something else, and so skillfully built. I have obviously asked Simon to retain the deposit I paid (as I believe in honouring the meaning of a deposit), and hope that he can find another enthusiastic buyer.

Kind regards

Steve

Congratulations Steve, welcome to the pleasures of 944 turbo ownership.

I am sad to hear you did not buy Simon's amazing turbo following our telephone conversation a couple of weeks ago. However I know that a 944 isnt a car purchased with the head, rather one that has to be with the heart, so if you were more comfortable with the low mileage one then you have made the right purchase for you.

I am sure you will enjoy your *almost* new car, but if you ever need any advice or help, feel free to call me again.
