944 sound absorbing material

after fitting a new clutch to my 944S2 Cab my garage tell me that the sound absorbing material around the gearstick and tunnel fell apart.So,it all works perfectly but it's too noisy!

Is this something I can buy off the shelf or is it a DIY job?

can anyone help on this problem?

You need a thick and dense material. Different materials for different frequencies.
Porsche have spent £millions over the past 50 years reseaching this for all their cars so you need to look at the materials they use. You might try the breakers for some used sound deadening material . Not sure if you can remove it if its bonded though. Maybe remove some sheets from undder car bonnets ?

For cheapness and easy fitting you could try ordinary dense compressed felt domestic carpet underlay . Available anywhere and easy to cut to size and stick with foam carpet adhesive.
 
What about some "dynomat" the stuff thats uised by the ICE folk , a car stereo shop should sell it. or e-bay....
 
If they specifically said "round the gearstick and on top of the tunnel" then I'd imagine they meant the foam block that fits in the bottom of the gearstick aperture. In which case it's a Porsche part, and won't be able to be installed (at all easily) without removing the gearstick and possibly the torque tube.

I'd leave it.

(FWIW, when I did the clutch on mine I didn't re-attach the heavy rubber gearstick gaiter after doing the job, and the noise it made in the cabin was superb! A mixture of road noise, exhaust noise and injector ticking ... it was something between a NASCAR racer and a massey-ferguson tractor. Simply lovely ... if yours sounds half as good I'd be certainly leaving it as it is. Sadly I had to re-attach the gaiter as SWMBO said it was too noisy ... [:(] )

I have a couple of good sound absorbing blocks that were in s2's that i have carefully removed. You can refit it but will have to cut a slice out of it below torque tube and then join with a glue or tape if the torque tube os in place.
