944 s2

Hi Guys,
Been away over seas working , left my s2 outside bloody mistake i think!!!!
fire up first time no probs, Excited to take the old girl for a run in the country but as soon
as she was warmed up, i notices that something was wrong. The idle was dropping as the car
was getting warmer and when i pull up at the lights she cut out.start up but i had to rev her
to keep her from cutting out,i hope it not me thinking of buying a classic 911 that she is getting upset.
i would never sell her, but i do fancy a 911 sc.
please help as i want to have an idea what it could be?

Hi jason sounds like your car has quite a common problem due to lack of regular use. You don't say how long ? There are so many things on our cars that are over 20 years old and have never been serviced ,repaired or replaced that it is a miracle that they work at all really. i would start by making sure that there is plenty of fuel in the tank. if it was last run nearly empty its highly likely that the pump will struggle to prime the fuel system properly and build up sufficient pressure to operate the injectors unless it has some help from a good head of fuel in the tank. Both of the two times this has happened to my car were started by running the tank empty then leaving it for a few weeks unused.! next I would systematically clean all the important connector contacts especially the injector connectors, the crank/speed sensor connector, Low and high tension connections including the ignition amplifier. It would be useful to clean some of your earths especially the two ECU earth points under the dash near the fuse box. You might try starting and running the car with a 3x way DME relay bypass in place of the DME relay. if you've not run the car for a bit the relay switch pivots could be sticky and the contacts oxidised. The 3x way bypass will eliniminate the DME relay being the cause. lastly you may have to have your injectors cleaned and tested but first check the fuel pressure and the fuel pressure leak-down rate to make sure you haven't got a problem with low fuel pressure due to a faulty FPR valve FPD Damper valve or the non return valve in the fuel pump. Whatever you do do not replace your fuel pump as they are very rarely at fault but its the first thing garages tend to replace becsause they don't make any money testing your pump.[:mad:]
 
good luck . My 2x experiences would suggest it is likely to be low fuel pressure . You can get a throw-away fuel pressure guage on ebay for £10-15.00 There are lots of threads on the forum about testing the fuel delivery system . if its not starting, give it a good crank for 20 seconds or so and check that you have fuel on the plugs and if you are getting a spark . That should help direct you to the likely cause.
