944 S2 Steering wheel options

ORIGINAL: T911UK

924, 944 & 928 wheels are not all the sam. Theye vary in size a little and the boss on the back is different on 924, 924S and 944 early dash

924, 924S, 944.1, 944.2 & 968 (and 964) wheels are all fundamentally similar - diameter was an option (380mm std or 363mm option 3/4spoke on S1 & both 4spoke on S2). The 'boss' is identical in all wheels. The only difference, and the only mention of 928s, is that 1986MY onwards cars use a different removable horn contact / slip ring. If you remove this from a 1987 car and fit an earlier (VW part number) horn contact ring, the wheel can be fitted to a 1984 944. That said, a 928 part number steering wheel does show on PET for series two 944s and 964s...

Series one horn ring # 113 415 660 A
Series two horn ring # 928 347 099 00

I have a series two car with a 1985 steering wheel fitted and a 1990 car with an early wheel (both fitted witht the correct slip ring), which makes my point, I think.

You wont generate much business making argumentitive and factually innacurate posts like that.

You do make me chuckle from time to time with your dead pan delivery.

Good work Simon!

I was just trying to help out the owners of cars who might buy the wrong wheel after reading your post, thats all, "fundamentally similar" covers it nicely........but who would want a horid plastic horn pad wheel on their 968?
