Apologies Waylander!
Will investigate.
And thanks again for the guidance. I have emailed BCS and will be happy to share any reply. Cheers

Hi all.
Just a quick update and a request for advice…..
Not a lot of progress made since last post but - thanks again Waylander - BCS has repaired my rear brake calliper by drilling out the corroded connection and fitting an insert. Note this wasn’t a helicoil - they would only install them to the bleed nipple side - so my understanding is that it was an insert, keyed so that it can‘t wind out. Is that a Timesert?
Looking now to finish bodywork, have clutch fitted, back axle reinstalled and various other items to allow an MoT to be issued Monday in a few weeks.
Moving now towards mechanical items do any of you have a view on the starter motor - 1.4kW vs 1.7kW? There is another v interesting string on the forum about why 944 starting might be "laboured” along the lines of "they all do that Sir”. I had assumed the bigger the starter the better but there is a comment on the other string that the 1.4kW pdivided superior starting performance. Please don’t shoot the messenger ….. but views appreciated as always. Thanks in advance.

The starter is not the weak point, the 30+ year old cables and connections are,
I have been making new alternator harness for 968’s as they are NLA,

the state of some of the removed looms is horrific, the big 16mm cables are green and corroded inside with high resistance, the insulation just breaking up and falling off,

they probably all need replacing

Hello lovely job and a job that I am going to tackle shortly .
can I ask where you got you sill panels from ? I noticed a lot on eBay saying they are a perfect fit but can’t find any people that have used them.
mine is very much like yours inner and outer sections gone.
thanks G

Hi all and apologies for my nil communication recently, especially passionPorsche1972 for not replying to your direct query.
Frinfo my mid sill reinforcements and outer sills came direct from Porsche Reading, along with many other panels which only needed part use. Also Frinfo I have a number of "part” parts with photos of all serial numbers which are now available for sale as …… drum roll …… the car is now back in my man cave with its fresh new MoT in place, ready for me to launch into major mechanical and cosmetic tinkering. My resto journey is back up and running. Cheers all. Stumpjumper

Hi there I used the ebay sills - came from these guys: https://www.classiccarpartsandpanels.co.uk/shop/porsche-944-sill/

The Sill panel is actually pretty darned good and lines up nicely. The only issues are welding into the treadplate area of the sill is fiddly if you're not using it as a cover sill (mine was an absolute catalog of horrors when I got in there). You need to remove the front wing to seam weld all the way round it unless you joddle the end of the existing sill and make merry with the grinder.

However the rear wing corner panel requires a LOT of work to get its vaguely right. If you're doing the work yourself, then at £150 a side all in, unless you're building a concours car, it's good enough providing you have the time and don't mind using filler to sort out a few niggles.

If you're paying a body shop though, just pay the c.£600 a side for OEM and you'll save the difference on labour. Drop me a PM and I can send some pics of how I fitted mine as I had to modify the rear wing panels quite a lot. I can share the "learning" as well as I made plenty of errors along the way. Car is going for paint in 2 weeks so hopefully will have something nice to show!

Make sure you create some drainage holes in those sills, if you look at the factory sills there are slits roughly every 6 inches or so along the bottom edge of the sill so any moisture can drain out. When I had my drivers side sill replaced with a custom panel they also forgot about the slits, another job on my list...
