944 S2 - last of the line?

they were getting a little expensive, my buddies 968 Tip Cab was £46k no wonder they did not sell many, that's quattro TT money today 30 years later

I think a lot were left unsold, my K plate 964 was sat for over a year before it was sold and the last of the 944s were also hanging around for a long time. It was a bad time for Porsche until the Boxster was released. Also had an SE, nice but not a lot of difference between that and the S2 except for a 968 steering wheel, coilovers and the chip, oh and the decals of which I have a spare set somewhere.

A lot of goodwill and longstanding customers were lost to other makes as a result.

Blimey, it wasn't long (After release) before the 968 had to be cut on price as that wasn't selling either. They slashed the price by a fair margin stuck some bucket seats in, CS badges and some clever marketing and got rid of them a bit easier!

Maybe they should of stuck with the original plan to call the revised car the 944 S3

as were in one of those World Recessions at the time, nothing compared to whats happening now

I remember test driving the S2’s at a Porsche sales event (just944’s) at Millbrook in 1991. One of best days out ever. Managed a leap on Alpine track . Everything about the car was spot on. Still have the ‘guest’ pack. Day was known as Driving Ambition. 944 Turbo £34k +VAT (options?) dearer than 911Carrera 2 Coupe at time!

1991 was this event so obviously pushing model. Prices in pics plus options page. A 928 was 61k before options but inc. VAT

Just read this thread and never realised that the last 3 numbers of the vin was the serial number for the year - mine ends 944
