944 or Porsche specialists for diagnosis ?

Dear All

Long time since posting on here !

I've an oustanding and frustrating issue with my 951 due to lack of spark - I have replaced/tested all of the usual components - DME tested, ref. sensors x 2, coil, rotor cap, dizzie cap, ignition switch etc.

Very frustratingly I had a general mobile mechanic out today - still no joy.

So I need recommendations for a 944 specialist or 'older' Porsche specialist ( ie. pre 90's and OBD diagnostic ports) to look at my car and get it running again - anyone used particular garages or specialists recently they can recommend in the Midlands/ South East - realistically looks like I'll have to trailer my 951 somewhere myself ( not an issue as all geared up for this with the CTT & trailer).

Many thanks in advance

Chris (frustrated owner of a non pink 1988 Turbo S)

Several specialists in the Midlands area, you've got:

EMC Motorsport in Ledbury
Zuffenhaus in Wythall
Martin Brown
Club Autosport Ltd
Pro-9
PCT

Did you make sure to exhaust all the troubleshooting options from Clarks?

Did you get a spark from the coil, just plug a spark plug directly into the fly lead from the coil and bypass the distributor.

If you have completely tested everything, then it sounds like you might have a wiring issue, something I've seen other owners have issues with is a pin or two getting dislodged from the ECU connector. You mentioned DME, were you referring to the ECU (under the floorboard) or the relay in the fusebox?

Hi yes have tried all of the Clarks 'tricks' and test - by DME I meant the under floor Bosche Motronics DME ( not KLR unit) - frustrating issue is that there is power at the coil both black ( from ignition) and green ( from the DME ) wires.

Thank you for list of possible garages to speak with

Tom Barker at Augment Automotive has undertaken all the engine work on my 944 S2. Good lad - don’t expect swanky waiting rooms and hand sanitizer but he’s hugely knowledgable. Hope this helps & good luck.

EMC have moved from Birmingham. They’re in Worcestershire somewhere now. Significantly South and West of Brum.

Another blast from the past. 5 years ago when I lived 3 miles away, we could have swapped parts from my turbo to eliminate potential issues.

A bit farther out though in Gloucestershire, near Pendock.

Just to say - thank you for all your recommendations - car booked with Augment and will be trailering it down this Weekend - much appreciated for the steer
