944 Instrument Cluster / Clocks

Hey Guys... ehhh and Gals !!

Would just like to say Hi to everyone first, I have an 1987 944 2.5.

I have removed the instrument cluster to find the printed circuit has melted (fuel gauge was not working)

I have found a replacement one on the internet but the part No. is different.

The replacement is from a 1990 S2, can anyone tell me if this is compatible please ??

My Part No. is - 945.641.311.05
Replacement is - 945.641.311.06

Any help would be gratefully appreciated

If you have a hunt through porsche.co.uk you should be able to find the historic bit where there is a list of the part nos model by model. It may not go back as far as 87 but worth a look.
Some kind soul may post the link but I'm at work and don't have it to hand.
 
OP, are you sure that youre quoting the correct part number?

The reason that I ask, is that 945 indicates a unique right hand part but the instruments are the same, as far as I recall.

Yes, the 945.641.311.05 is the part No. on the dashcluster, i went and dble checked there.

I know the turbo's are obviously different but i was wondering if the last digit was maybe a manufacture date or something.

You know how if a part has been super-ceeded they tend to change the last digit ?? that sort of thing.

I just dont want to buy this if it aint gonna work, would rather spend a bit of time and source the correct age/part No

I have recently spent a serious amount of time and knuckles on my 944 and the dash is the last part

New front suspension arms and shackle bushes
new starter motor
new middle and rear exhaust sections
new front and rear discs and pads and 4x flexi-hoses
full service inc timing belt and dizzy/rotor
new fuel tank sender (which is now apparantly not required as my dash is goofed)

LOL... hope the sunshine stays for a bit longer
 
Id say that it was a revision number. Ive always found post 1986 instruments to be interchangeable, provided that they have the same speedometer. Ive even heard that 1986 model year clocks with the MPG gauge fit and work (inc the gauge) on later cars.

Later Turbos and 968s have a 180mph speedo, but I presume that the S2 and your car both have a 160mph speedometer?
 
Check speedo and rev limit, but your prob want 2 change them anyway due 2 the mileage. do you no if use dash lights work? If not now should be a good time 2 change them. The clear prism under Neath the dash should be shiny, these carry the light. If the circuit melted could be that the bulb housing are also. Would be worth checking this on yours and the item your buying. Iv got 2 spear clusters. One with updated blue led strip which shines on to the clocks. From 944 S so the rev limit will be higher.

Did you check ur dash bulbs? Cas now would be a good time 2 change them also. Can check each bulb out off the car with 9v battery and 2 wires

the clocks are indeed inter-changeable.... have checked all the bulbs and we are good to go !!
