944 Hot Air only....

ORIGINAL: kikbak

Bad news for me..........    stripped the glove box out and the clip is fine..... sat there holding tight,  thought it was to good to be true, not my luck.........  So any one any idea of the next thing that could be wrong  ????????
i had the same problem with mine

tried all the clips etc and eventually it was the head heater unit that was the problem
if the heater knob turns very loosely (without any resistance) then thats likely the problem

Outside temp sensor? - near to the heater fan air inlet in the scuttle area

This was one I seemed to recall hearing about sometime in the past - is there any way of checking it is/isn't functioning correctly? Resistance at a given temperature?

Not sure, never had to investigate one, and in fact I think that more usually they fail cold with heat when the defrost button is pressed. might be worth unplugging it and see if any change.
I seem to recall its a conical shape piece.

I think there is a third behind the centre of the dash somewhere as well, in addition to the one that connects to the small round grill beside the glovebox (with the tube on the back)

Sorry cant be more help!
Tony

Symptoms of the outide temp sensor failing are no heat until about 27 on the temp knob. See my thread here it may be of some use.

Thanks Rob... from your testing method it sounds as if it could be the outside temperature thermister having gone open circuit/disconnected/broken wire/abducted by aliens!
Certainly something to look at... as by the sound of it the Porsche Manual might well be too.

Sure enough, checked this today, and the little thermistor is open circuit. I was able to swap it out with the one from my S2 which although different, so doesn't fit in the mounting quite correctly, appears to allow the system to function correctly.

So, for the record, if you have a heater that is hot most but not quite all of the time, and your little clip isn't broken, check your outside temperature sensor isn't open circuit!

Thanks all,

Tref.
