Well after a lot of hard work I finally got my 944 2.5 lux fitted with my modified DME onto the dyno! I have been having trouble getting enough fuel into the lux, I have now switched to 944 turbo injectors. I am also running a wasted spark coil pack, just a basic VW audi unit as you might find on a Golf etc. Intake and cam is all bog standard except for AFM delete pipe. Before going any further I must stipulate these power figures on their own mean almost nothing and make absolutely no sense when compared to other dyno results I have had for the car when standard. Dyno's are not absolutely accurate and you must compare on the same dyno on the same day for any real comparison. The car was running 95 ron fuel and had a 'guesstimate' ignition map. We did not have time to tune the ignition so the dyno guy guessed what he though would be about right for the engine....
So the first figures are: 120WHP and 150FWHP.
I have had previous dyno charts for the car and they indicated with a bog standard 2.5 engine 100WHP and 150FWHP. This shows a 20HP difference in wheel horsepower yet somehow the same flywheel horsepower. Interesting...... Not sure I can really draw any conclusions from that other than its making good power and my butt dyno says its better than ever, either way I'm sure there will be more once the ignition is tuned properly. In terms of throttle response and overall driveability I think its a big step up from the standard system, but rose tinted glasses and all. Also did some emissions checks 0.68% CO, 14.12% CO2, 71 ppm vol hc. I am going to switch to modern injectors with better atomisation so I think I can improve further on this. Also plan to install a very modern fast response MAP sensor into the manifold, which also has built in IAT sensor. This will give the DME the most accurate manifold pressure and itnake air temperature measurements really possible.
Here are some interesting things I have found out about the 944 Lux:

Here are some interesting things I have found out about the 944 Lux:
- The 944 Lux fuel injectors do not have much room for power increase
- We did a run without the airbox and although there was no increase in 'peak' power we saw gains of up to 15hp at the top end of the curve without any real tuning
- A new cam or other intake mods would probably be wasted without getting rid of the AFM/Airbox
