944 damp carpet

just noticed in the past couple of days my 944 S2 has got some water into the carpet behind the passenger seat.

Its never done it before but it has been sitting about recently not being used as much as usual.

There is no damp on the drivers side or the front passenger footwell.

Where would this water be coming in from and how to fix it?

Best bet is to a search on here; there have been numerous threads about leaks (and there was one about water behind the seats very recently IIRC.)

Sounds like sunroof, remove the rear boot carpet and see if that's wet, water can run in from lights/ hacth and work its way follwards, u won't tell from

Yep, or that the sunroof drains have been detached by careless clearing of a blockage. Next suspects are the scuttle drains. Then look at the rear hatch, and the rear quarterlights. And the rear light units, particularly if they've been changed recently and not sealed. And the drains on the doors, but this is pretty obvious as the door will be sloshing around full of water.

Also holes for new wires such as alarm systems; if the car's parked facing uphill it's possibly through the front bulkhead. Water travels in mysterious ways, so don't always assume it's coming from the nearest place.

If anyone would care to take some pictures of the usual suspects it would make a jolly good faq!

Hi. Is the rear seat wet too? Im currently chasing the same, going to get sunroof seal as Ive striped the roof lining down and the roof is very wet at the rear n/s corner of the sunroof. All drains are fine so can only really be the seal...?

Iv just spent 3 weeks trying 2 work out why my sunroof started leaking, was in the rear corners, I could see the drip build up then drop.
As I have a parts car that never leaked, 1st thing I did was swap over the outer seal. Parts car didn't leak but my turbo would.

4 weeks I when back and fourth between the 2 cars trying differnt combamations off inner and outer seals.

I ended up leaving the inner seal off the parts car. And when I went back the car that didn't leak was leaking.

I used Vaseline 2 put the inner and out seal on my turbo. It's still got the same seal set that was leaking but has now stopped.

Off course I checked and check the drains. But I think the inner seal can be the issue more then the outer.
