Cheers Martyn, I'll keep an eye open when pennies allow... I'm hoping that my son will make a start on removing the dash in the not too distant future, that would be a good time to take a closer look at the smaller details.

BTW, was it you who kindly sent me some thermister sensors a year or so ago? For the life of me I can't find the damn things, would you have the part code so I can track some more down please, I seem to recall mention of them being available from RS? Fixing the heating is the top priority once the dash is removed.

Cheers

Pete
Re. 944 heating I’ve just fixed my heater not not going cold inside traced to water valve on rear engine by Bulk head it closes by vacuum with engine running when switched to cold on dial if you listen carefully you can just hear the vacuum control solenoid click The seal inside the water valve had failed so water still passed through it , to test remove valve hold in closed position & water should not pass. When dial is gradually turned to warm the blender flaps inside heater unit then control amount of heat from then. Peter

Hi

Thanks for the input... the heating in my car has been one of those things which I just haven't got around to sorting, my issue is the opposite, as in no heat.

The heating valve works fine and it is hot in both inlet and outlet pipes but nothing in the cab. We suspect that the matrix is blocked, it certainly leaks. As this requires the dash to be removed to investigate fully we are going to check the whole system over once the dash is out. We are awaiting an order from Porsche for the various plastic clips etc that control the flaps, just in case they are broken. Once that order arrives (it's been stuck at Porsche main dealer since the lockdown began) and if my son has time/space in his works unit, work will begin.

many thanks

Pete

shame its not LHD you can change the matrix without removing the dash, RHD the pedals are all in the way, and no pedal box to just unbolt

the leak is most likely the O rings on the neck that goes through the firewall, not uncommon for them to go, especially after all these years

You can test the wayet flow by taking the hoses off at the bulkhead connect a hose with funnel at least car roof height fill with water see what comes out other hose also swap over there are flushing agents available I’ve known people to put the garden hose on but this may blow the matrix so take care with that method. Peter

Thanks guys... yes new seals are on the same order from Porsche, yes done the garden hose test, all flowed fine which seemed strange. This was all done 5 years ago when the car was put back on the road, so many possibilities of what's wrong which is why it was left until we can get at it properly, the thermistors being another. The dash needs its leather covering fitted anyway which has also been sat in a box for the last 5 years, along with the centre console cover to match...:)

Hope to get it sorted this year, don't want to drive through another cold/wet winter with it as it is.

Pete
