944 chip?

I know full well theres no possible gain in power on the 2.5 square dash 944, but i have heard that a chip will give a better powercurve.

I heard that id need a later S2 ECU which a firm would modify? This was abit ago so i cant rememebr what i was told [8|]

just spotted this on ebay, it doesnt look QUITE like the usual rubbish that you get but is it any good?

www.promaxmotorsport.com announced they had one a few months ago, up til then I`ld never heard of one for the square dash 944.

This is something I've wondered about for years, just why is it that suppliers say you cant rechip the earlier cars? I realise the chip is soldered in which would mean that it wouldn't be a DIY job, but that's not really an insurmountable problem. Perhaps demand is quite low and its not cost effective to get this involved?

I heard that its because its soldered in, i was told that you have to buy a used later model ecu and then buy the oval dash chip, i was told this would work?

Are you sure the only reason the chips are not replaceable is that they are soldered? I thought it was that the later ECU's utilised EPROM technology where chips can be programmed whereas the chips used in the earlier ECU's are not EPROMS and the circuit inside the chips is fixed and effectively hardware.

I have no idea sorry, i asked my dad and thats all he could remember from a phone call to someone who did porsche chips. you know more than me! []

The S2 ECU utilised EPROM chips. You could buy off the shelf chips and replace them yourself - i've done it on my turbo and it takes about 1.5hrs. Although i'm not sure whether you could simply swap out an early 944 ECU with a later 944 ECU especially from a different model. I'd do a bit more research to see if it's possible.
