Hi All

I seem to have an intermittent problem with both the "Central warning & Engine oil lights" they seem to sometimes stay on after start & stay on.

I have checked the oil on many occasions & that's fine.

I seem to recall hearing that it could be a sensor ?

Please advise.

Thanks in advance

They have an oil level switch in the sump near the exhaust and that may be the cause. Mine came on after bouncing the "track" at Donington last week - went off as soon as I switched the engine back on again.

It could be the sensor but iirc the shape of the sump itself means that that the reading can be "over sensitive" particularly if you have been parked on an incline thus the warning light can come on even when the oil level is fine, or just under max.

I assume you mean the oil pressure warning light which forms part of the gauge. If your showing good pressure too it's probably just the sensor, sometimes it just needs tightening or jigging, it's just under the oil filter and accessible from the offside wheel arch.

Parked on an inclined drive my 968 lit up every morning, even on 'MAX'. They can be overly sensitive. My previous 944 had been far less quick to illuminate.

I always assumed the level switch was a float gauge, and the float sinks slightly with time making them over-sensitive.
