944 Cab Roof problem

Trying to fix a 944 Cab electric roof for a friend. If you know the circuit you will know that there is a control module that controls when you can open and close the roof - I think the primary restriction is speed (or lack there of) as the module has a connection to the speedo - but also a seperate hall sensor. If I bypass the module with +12v and an earth it all works properly including the limit switches - but not when supplied through the module.

The module has 12v to it and a good earth, but I can find no information about what the module is looking for to give it the right conditions to release the supply to the roof.

I am making an assumption that it is not a defective module as friend had already changed that with no success.

Any insight or info would be appreciated.

Thanks

7thheaven,

I know nothing about cab rooves (but you are in the right place to ask the question!) However, if you know that the module is good (I presume the ones your friend substituted were known good?) and it works when the module is bypassed, surely the only remaining question is the supply to the module?

What contacts does it have? +12v, earth, speedo and hall sensor? If so, I'd be checking these to make sure they are signalling right.

(Or just wire the module out of the circuit and tell the friend not to activate the roof below 10mph - or whatever the limit should be!)

The engine needs to be stopped withe key in position 1 (i e. not illuminating the warning lights) It will ne verysensitive to teh key position, especialy if it is worn and old.

Check also the roof relay. Usually blue plastic cover with part number 941 615 101 11 on it. I worked with friends cab and we have a problem with that relay. It's much more modern (eproms) compared to old style coupe sun roof relay which still have traditional points inside of it. Coupe relay work with cab in half way. It lowers the roof but won't lift it back. Cab relay is priced very high [:(]

Had probems with the microswitches in the top of the windscreen on mine there is one each side, I think they need to detect the roof is unlocked before it will operate, one was not switching - they are wired in series.
