944 at Porsche & Polo

Sorry - but can you also confirm times for the P&P event.......

I might pop over to Cornbury house on another day then to look at the club shop.

Thanks to all who were there today, I counted as many as at Blenheim for the National event. [:)]

Some great results in the concourse. Although it's not my thing at all I was very impressed by the way some of you had put in an immense amount of effort despite knowing you had little hope against the "pro" concourse people.

The event was as action-packed as usual. Polo was vicious, pony/car race was an eye-opener as the ponies accelerated fast then veered across the Porsche. Porsche anti-lock brakes are far better than horse stoppers. Our gundogs proved they were useless by turning into quivering wrecks at the sound of a few blanks being fired off, whilst an ikle puppy laughed at them as it collected dummies. [&o]

Great to see some of the cars previously owned by other forum users, including mine, being proudly displayed by their new owners. I saw your car there Rav, but missed you. Hope you can make one of the next events, see the faqs for updates.

I look forward to seeing many of you at the RAS open day, and at Porscheshop in October.

Hi

Had a great time at the event, the dogs were as much fun as the cars and I can confirm I'm NOT going in for playing polo - ever.

Also had nice trip all the way home (for me anyway) with a turbo E944 *** for company, even if I forgot which junction of the M40 I was at and went round 3 island twice!

Thanks all for a great event.

Mike Sandy the girls and Chrissie the dog.

Yeah I really enjoyed the day, some really good looking cars in the concours, congrats to James (Sc0tty) who came second in the modified class, hehe, I kid you not...

Definately will be going again next year, and would recommend it to anyone.

This was my first Porsche Club GB event since buying my lux in July. I was looking forward to the event, but also a little tentative for a few reasons:

1. What would the people there be like? I'm not mechanically minded, I can just about change a wheel on a car, but that's the extent of my mechanical skills. Therefore would I be overwhelmed and completely baffled by the conversation held by others and spend the whole day nodding politely without understanding what was going on?

2. Whilst I'm very pleased with the car that I bought from Paul and realise that he kept in excellent condition, I have done nothing else with it other than the odd wash and polish. Would I be embarrassed by the pristine condition of everyone else's cars?

3. I was planning on bringing my 4 year-old daughter (and leaving the wife at home with the little one). Was there going to be enough to keep her entertained while I poked around the other cars on display? She's fairly keen on horses and is slowly being indoctrinated into believing (quite correctly) that Porsches are the greatest cars ever built, but I had a feeling that I'd be leaving after about an hour with a thoroughly bored little girl.

Well, I returned a few hours ago from a quite superb event. The organisation was excellent, the cars were fantastic, the entertainment was well, entertaining and the burgers were alright (well you can't have it all!). In answer to my reservations above:

1. I don't think I was confused by any of the conversations that I had. Everyone that I met was very pleasant, interesting and whilst I could tell that many of them knew far more about cars than I did, everyone talked about their cars in a very down to earth manner. For those that I did speak to - thanks for dumbing down for me!

2. My car looked fine, in fact I was pretty proud of it. Yes there were plenty of cars that were shinier, but that didn't really matter. Everyone there was proud of their cars, whether they spent every waking second polishing the bits that nobody except concours judges can see or whether they just turned up in their daily runabout having given it a once over with a wet rag a week or two ago. By the way, the concours cars did look superb and well done to all the 944 owners, you did our register proud. Two questions though - where do you find the time to get your cars looking so good? and when these cars look so good, does it become a bit inhibitive to drive them?

3. My daughter loved it. She liked watching the polo. Enjoyed the bouncy slide, but at £1.50 for 3 slides she needed to! She kind of liked seeing all the shiny cars, but unfortunately this was probably of least interest to her. But give her time eh? She is only 4! She liked stroking the dogs from the hunt, but definitely didn't enjoy being pushed over by one and slobbered all over her face by the culprit. Having said that, at least she fared better than the poor girl who got ganged up on by a pack of 15 or so dogs and having her burger and coffee stolen! I can understand the burger, but dogs that drink coffee?? these hunting folk certainly do lead different lives from the rest of us!!

But the thing that my daughter can't stop talking about is the McNulty's 2 dogs that she neded up playing with for most of the day. Paul - thank you for bringing them along. My daughter's hoping that there's another event next week, as long as you can bring the dogs.

Sorry, a bit of a long post but in essence what I wanted to say is that I'm really pleased that I bought a 944, particularly glad that I joined Porsche Club GB and can attend such events and I'm really looking forward to the next one.

I must get out more[:D][:D]

and when these cars look so good, does it become a bit inhibitive to drive them?

Completed a 1400 mile round trip to Scotland last month and intend to drive some of Europe next year, so no, not for me anyway.

Mine lives outside gets brush and hose wash - leather if time - hopefully once a week or so, minute waxed when I can.

I also have my wifes car, the family bus and company van to do so I guess it must be practice!

Oh, mines the rough one

Yes it really was a great event, hadn't been to P&P before which on the evidence of this years offering is certainly my loss. The Polo matches were hugely enjoyable if a little confusing at times - am not a great horse lover but seeing the control those riders had of their mounts as they thundered up and down was impressive for sure.

Plenty of other things going on too and of course most importantly was a chance to catch up with some familiar faces as well as some new ones, only fly in the ointment was that the M25 was closed on the return journey which entailed a delightful detour to get home but hey you can't have everything !

For those that I did speak to - thanks for dumbing down for me!

Don't worry Stuart, most of us really are that dumb ! [:D]

We have just returned from an excellent time having also stayed over last night to make a weekend of it and visiting Oxford for the day today.

The Polo was quite an experience having never seen a Polo match previously and the other events contributed to a day of excellent timing and organisation.

It was good to have the Trade Stands attend with each having special offers on the day.

and well done Scotty for your concours trophie [;)]

looking forward to the RAS open day at Porsche shop for the next event

Just thought I would post a few snaps of the day. Nothing fancy or arty I am afraid, but hopefully will bring back memories of a good day for those who attended while showing those who did not what they missed. [;)]

I would like to thank the 944 Register for their support for Porsche & Polo.
There wasn't a Register of the Event award but if there was I think there is a good chance that it would have gone to the 944 Register.

Director and Porsche & Polo Organiser.

Jon,

Sorry i missed you ! It would have been good to re-introduce you to DHX. Did you get chance to look at her?

Maybe next time.

A big thank you to Geoff, Jon, Paul and everyone else involved in organising a great day out at the Polo ground.
I very much enjoyed meeting you all and hope to see you at more events in the future.

Hi Rav,

Yes sorry I missed you. I did get a chance to take a look at her, was great to see her looking so smart and in good shape. Must admit my heart gave a little flutter when I saw her [:)]
