944 2.5 restoration project.

I'm in a similar boat to you. I'm trying to restore a 1983 944 which had been sat in a garage for around 8 years not moving. I now have the engine running but I still need to replace most of the fuel delivery system and the brake lines before it can get anywhere near a road.

I think it's great to hear about people restoring early 944's!

I'm about to get my 1990 S2 back on the road soon. Just need to get the current occupant of my garage MOT'd and back on the road. Then the recomissioning begins.
 
Looks like a great project, I wish I had the time to get my teeth into something like that. Please keep us updated with your progress.
 
Got the door handle in today bit tricky adjusting so it worked.
Found a pretty bad fuel leak from what looks like the fuel rail that feeds the injectors. Leaks from the pipe in the circle.

Does anyone know where to get one from?
 
I have a spare that runs from the fuel reg to the fuel rail, but looks a bit different than in your photo as it runs into a rubber hose.

What part of the world are you in?
 
Live down in Swindon-Wilts.
The rail is metal all the way as far as I can remember, will look tomorrow at work now.
 
It's worth noting that the early cars had a different route for the fuel lines so it might be worth giving your local OPC a ring an asking them for a price. I use OPC Exeter as they will post parts out (and it's also the closest to me).

Found the leaking part under the 6 arrow take it thats a new fuel rail and a non repair job?
Found a few rails on ebay but there all different in layout to mine, now there is one with the regulators and injectors on could I swap the lot over?

No you cant swap for a later rail without altering the lines - they wont reach - I've tried!
Try opc, but breakers also, engine must be pre 85 but even some of these seem to have a third style!

If it is just that metal link pipe that is the problem, could it not be a candidate for Pirtek to make up a new pipe for you.

I haven't read all the thread properly, but have you called Porsche yet? The fact that it is listed seperately on the parts diagram will probably mean you can buy it seperately
 
Just had a look at the parts catalog and it doesn't look like the part that is leaking is separate to me. There are often cars being broken on ebay so it may be worth messaging somebody breaking an early car on there. The one you found on ebay is definitely a later style as both regulators are sticking out to the side.
 
Ok all done took the hole rail to Pirtek to see what they could do, they stuck the fuel rail on the nitrogen air compressor 300bar. It was a tiny leak that you couldn't see unless fuel was poring out.
They cleaned it all up welded it and then stuck it back on the compressor, all in all £27 and its back on now and so far no leaks but my battery is dead so will have to wait till tomorrow to see if she starts.
Jobs done today though got the window motor and scissor mech in along with the new pass side window, found the wiring cut off in the parts so the bit from the motor to the coupler need re crimping.
Tried it with 12volts and goes up and down but is really stiff but to late now will look tomorrow.

Good to hear you got the leak sorted. My windows aren't exactly speedy but one of them was painfully slow and made a horrible grinding noise. It turned out that the screws that held the motor to the mech were loose and the motor was hanging out, sadly the noise was also partly down to the motor being on its last legs but it seems to have quietened down now. I also greased up the whole mech while I had it out of the door which seemed to help enormously.
 
Great - I had a tiny leak on a weld just there, couldn't get a replacement but cleaned it up and smeared epoxy glue in- but will remember Pirteck if it fails!

Got the new alloys look ok but the tyres look huge not sure to sell them on now or put them on, depends how much the spacers are going to cost. Few scratches on there that the seller didn't mention as well[:mad:]
They have two brand new tyres on there so could get most of the money back from them alone, only paid £200 for them bit if a punt tbh.

Offset is 7.5 ET53 and the original was 7ET23mm so if i'm right I think I need 36mm spacers?
Anyone know if this is right and where I can get the spacers from?

Yup, he stated that in the first post. The tyres won't be suitable for a 944 though the wheels will fit with some expensiveliy wide spacers [&o]
