Hi Guy's,
Hoping some of you mechanical wizzards can steer me in the right direction, I have an 1986 924S that has decided it doesn't want to start. I swapped over the DME from my 944 turbo and still no start, I put the 924 DME into the 944 and it started up per usual so I know it's not a DME problem. I have checked for spark at the plugs and there is so what do you guys reckon?....Is there any other simple checks I can do to help get her running?....Also, Is there a diagnostic port I can plug a scanner into?...Cheers in advance..

John Daly.

Id replace the fuel filter and then suspect the fuel pressure regulator. Do you know that the fuel pump is working and can you see the tachometer needle bouncing as the car turns over?

Ok, when you say DME do you mean the ECU or the relay. A 924s DME is not compatible with a 944 Turbo due to the use of the KLR. I would start by listening for the fuel pump running and the injectors ticking. Then look at the RPM counter when cranking and see if it bounces. Then check for a spark with a plug out, then measure the resistance of the coolant sensor and the air temperature sensor in the AFM. Let us know what you find :D.

I can see the tach slightly bouncing alright, Will do more checks as you described on the fuel tomorrow....Cheers

DME Relay....I will investigate the fuel pump tomorrow...tach is bouncing when cranking car....The car was running great beforehand...Cheers

1) Check fuel pump is running

2) Check filter isnt blocked (risky if old and fittings are rusty)

3) Check for power to the injectors

4) Check crank sensor

5) Check dizzy for condition/security

6) Check your AA membership is for "at home" [;)]
