924 mirror on 944?

Hi all

Just wondering, does anyone know if a 924 door mirror is a straight swap for a 1986 944 door mirror? I've found a 924 mirror for a reasonable price, and the seller states it should fit a 944 too. However, there are only 5 wires coming out of the mirror, and Clark's Garage says there should be 6. Will a 924 mirror fit? And what would the 6th wire do - mirror heating element perhaps?

Finally, the electrical pin removal tool thing needed to remove the pins from the connector within the mirror body - is this a Molex pin removal tool? If so, do I need a male fit tool or a female fit tool, or both?!

Thanks.

Unfortunately it wont fit. The innards all changed with the series two car and the early glass will have several peg connections, whereas the series two glass will have a large circular connector.

Thanks both.

I know the glass attachment set up within the mirror unit is different, but I'm talking about replacing the whole wing mirror unit. It probably wouldn't be a long term solution as I've got a good 944 mirror that just needs painting but am not sure when I'll be able to do this, so I was just wondering about literally undoing the single allen screw, taking the mirror unit off the car and slotting the 924 unit into place. So, wiring compatibility may not be essential, but a good fit of the mirror to the car would be...

Cheers.

I temporarily used a 924 mirror on my 1989 944 when I painted my mirrors. The base piece that fits into the door is a slightly different shape but fits fine, but as has been said the wiring is different.

Thanks KC, I'll give it a go then... Did you manage to make the wiring adjust the 924 mirror, or just put it on and not adjust it?

I just put it on and adjusted it manually - in reality I'm the only one who drives my car (my wife doesn't like driving it!) and so they don't need adjusting once in the right place.
