911R at Silverstone Classic

Hi guys,

I went to Silverstone Classic yesterday (Sunday 30th July) and saw a fantastic 911R parked up amongst all the other cars (I actually saw it arrive as I was walking over the bridge).

As this is my favorite Porsche ever I was tempted to leave a note on the windscreen for the owner so I could have a look at the car (and possibly a ride in it). But I decided against it as it I thought it might be considered cheeky and now I regret that decision. I was also worried that as I didn't have my 718 Cayman with me the owner would think I was a bit strange (though I did have my membership card so could prove I was a member of PCGB).

Now this is probably going to be even more cheeky but I would love to meet the owner and have a look around the car if at all possible. It's the first time I've seen one on the road and it would be amazing if I could have a quick ride in one. This is the only place I can speak to an owner of one.

I have contacted the Porsche Experience Centre at Silverstone as I have my 718 Cayman experience booked for August but they won't let me pay for a ride in theirs, saying that the car is only used for people who own one.

I completely understand if the owner doesn't want to introduce himself to me, this is post is probably a bit creepy, but if he does I'd love to speak to him about his car.

The registration plate shows the car was from Hatfield Porsche and started with 'LS** ***'.

Hi Richard, there was a 911R parked at the recent 'Car Café 2017' held north of Nottingham (this sponsored by Stratstone I believe). This event is regularly held monthly between April and September. So you never know it might the there next month and you could ask the owner in person. Thanks for the heads up, I think I'll go along to that and see if the 911R is there again. It's not the same one but to have a ride in any would just be amazing.

I saw the car at the Car Cafe but didn't get chance to chat to the owner. I kept my eye on the car, waiting for the owner to go back to it, but when he did I was chatting to someone else. By the time I got over to him he'd started the engine and was leaving!!

How was the event? I recall you should have had good weather for the morning. As the event starts at 8:30 it's a bit early for me, also the locality is not ideal. Driving through Nottingham from the SE side is a quite slow process.

I know, I was gutted. I'm not losing hope though, I will get a ride in a 911R... one day!! I even went to the Porsche Experience Centre at Silverstone last week and the instructor I had wasn't allowed to take me out in the one they've got there. But he did give me a passenger ride in a 911 Turbo S (what a machine).

The event was OK. It was mostly Ford RS's, Nissan Skyline's, that sort of thing. I'd say it was more for owners of modded cars than prestige cars. I was parked between a classic Mini Cooper (that was nice) and Citroen C2 (not so nice).

But it was nice to talk to a few different people so I enjoyed it.

You're right, the location isn't the best. I had to navigate around the ring road but as it was so early it wasn't too bad.
