911 3.2 Carrera Idle jumps to 1800 rpm when changing gear

Hi guys my 1988 911 3.2 Carrera CabrioSport has an annoying habit of idling at 1800-200 rpm when I'm changing gear. It occurs when driving with the engine hot or cold and is particularly obvious when changing out of 1st into 2nd gear.
If I put the car in neutral and press the clutch in it immediately returns to normal at about 900rpm.
Is this normal?!
If not any ideas on a fix or where to start looking please?
 
I'm no expert but I'd suggest looking at the Idle Stabilizer Valve and any sensors your model might have - CHT, MAF and O2.

So, turns out it was the clutch pedal chafing on a wire. This was causing the DME to earth and making the revs jump.
Martin at STR Norwich sorted it. Very good chap!
